Fall 2011: C League Champs: NUB

NUB outlasts Prestige Worldwide to win Championship
    NUB 69 Prestige Worldwide 61

NUB came back from a five-digit lead late to win 69-61 over Prestige Worldwide. Geoff Ashton was the MVP of the game with 25 points and nine rebounds. He went 7-11 from the free throw line and also blocked three shots for NUB.

The first half was almost all Prestige Worldwide. The only substantial lead for NUB came on a layup by Matthew Brierley on a nice deep pass from Jeff Mason that made it 8-5. Prestige Worldwide answered with an 11-4 run to take the 16-12 lead on a three-point play from John Tenney. With the game tied at 20-20, Prestige Worldwide went on a 13-8 run to take the 33-28 lead thanks to a three from Brendan Klaes with 3:05 left in the half. The halftime lead for Prestige Worldwide was 35-32.

The second half was more of the same for both teams. Prestige Worldwide extended their lead to 44-37 thanks to a bucket from Nate Proulx. NUB answered with a 10-2 run to take the 47-46 edge on a Geoff bucket. After swapping baskets the next couple of possessions, Prestige Worldwide had a commanding 54-49 lead thanks to a Nate putback with 8:21 remaining. This lead was cut to 60-59 after a bucket from Jeff with 2:30 left in the game. Geoff hit both ends of his one-and-one opportunity and NUB had the 61-60 lead. NUB put this game away by hitting most of their free throws down the stretch while Prestige Worldwide could not buy a basket.

Jeff has a solid game by scoring 12 points, dishing out seven assists and collecting five rebounds. He was 4-4 from the free throw line in the final two minutes and stole the ball three times. However, he missed all six of his three-point attempts. Brian Fredriksen added 13 points and was 2-3 from distance.

Nate had a team-high 21 points for Prestige Worldwide.  He was 3-4 from deep. John added 18 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double. Brian Casey was 2-6 from three-point land with eight points and three steals.

    Thanks for the great season!
