Winter 2006: C League Champs: Get Shorty

    Kerrigan Saves Shorty

A game of two halves really as Eazy E dominated the 1st half behind the backcourt tandem of ERod Eddie Rodriguez (20 points) and Akhil Goel (18 points). At times, I thought they were even trying to one up each other on alternating possessions. Get Shorty looked lifeless in the 1st half as a few players arrived late for the start of the game. But in the 2nd half, things started coming together for Get Shorty as Sun Sommala (21 points) and Donal Kerrigan (12 points) picked up the intensity. In a close game down the stretch, it looked as if Eazy E would hang on as ERod and Akhil hit some big shots, but a few missed free throws and then a runner by Donal Kerrigan that banked in at the buzzer got Get Shorty a surprising win in this one. They finish the season at a strong 6-3 while Eazy E drops to 2-7, but next week we have CRFC playoff action which changes everything.

    IE Locks Up Top Seed

Mike Donlan and Mark Ewan on the floor at the same time spells doom for any IE opponent and last night was no different. Donlan exploded for 36 points and 16 rebounds after missing the previous 6 games or so for undisclosed reasons. Ewan chipped in 14 points and 15 rebounds while John Weiss added his own double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. San Juan was without the services of two of its players, but did get solid efforts from Dan Finkle (13 points), Gerry Young (10 points, 9 rebounds) and Neal Sheorey (11 points, 8 rebounds). IE wraps up the season at an outstanding 8-1 and has to be the Vegas favorite in the playoffs, but you never know at CRFC.
