Fall 2013 Champs: Co-Ed 5v5 League: Sexy And I Know It

    SAIKI wins Co-Ed Title
KaBoom 64 Sexy And I Know It 74

We\'ve made it to the final game in the Fall Session for the Co-Ed League! The Championship Game between the top two teams in the league went toe to toe for rights to call themselves champion. Thande\'s KaBoom and Wantman\'s Sexy And I Know It (who was Wantman-less), played their asses off in a knock down drag out game.

The first half started as expected with both teams going back and forth. All was good and it was looking like it was going to be a tight game, until Eliason went down with a leg injury. He banged his knee hard on the hardwood with what seemed to be a charlie horse combination from Vu and he was done for the night. KaBoom\'s advantage was immediately gone as the lack of a big evened out the playing field for SAIKI. The void left by Eliason had left the door open for a quick guard like Newton to allow him to attack and attack and attack. And attack he did, he helped his team gain a 32-25 lead at halftime.

KaBoom wouldn\'t go away easy despite losing their big man in the first half. Mouligne and Swecker was keeping them as close as possible with Taliaferro adding 16 of his own. Robinson\'s 14 was a big help in maintaining the lead for SAIKI, despite her 3/15 shooting from downtown. Minor hit a few big shots and a huge run from SAIKI allowed them to stretch the lead to 15. KaBoom tried their best to keep up but Newton was too much as they went on to win 74-64 to be crowned Co-Ed Champions for the Fall Season!

    SAIKI picks it up late

The first game of the night looked like a blowout on paper, but it was the total opposite come game time. Unfortunately, SAIKI had to start with 3 ladies, and go up against an unknown fill-in playing for Clutch. Turns out he was the best player on the floor for Clutch, and he provided firepower that they lacked. Newton was in the building for SAIKI, and he did his thing, scoring 14 of his 27 points in the first half. Newcomer Holmes helped fulfill a role in the middle for SAIKI, and when Baranowski and Vu showed up they were in full swing. A funny moment happened as said fill-in was put in his place by Baranowski as he tried to plow through Keith while he was playing defense. Two seconds later, Baranowski is staring down at the fill-in offering his hand to which he didn't oblige. There was a legitimate shot for Clutch in the second half for them to make a run towards SAIKI's lead, but a foul then technical foul received by the same fill-in virtually cost them the game as they were able to open up the lead and defeat Clutch 61-46.

22-6?? No problem as Rain Dance wins big

Dribble Penetration and Rain Dance went toe to toe last night, and in the beginning of the contest it was ALL DP. Williams had his squad firing on all cylinders, and they jumped out to a 22-6 lead behind Lassiter's hot start. It looked like an upset was in the works as the status of Michael Kearney was still hanging in the balance after a freak ankle injury last week. As soon as Kearney checked in, all was well and RD turned up the juice. They went on a 23-8 run to bring the game to 30-29 at halftime, and the onslaught continued through the second half. Mickens and Brooks helped out big, while the mistake by DP to leave S. Kearney open in the corner was paid for as she continued to knock down shot after shot. In the end, RD went on a 61-25 swing to win by 20 to the tune of 67-47.

    BoM keeps SnR at bay

Wait, why is there no write-up here? Are you telling me I have to write this again, 4 days later?? What in the world is happening to this website!?!? #hacked

Anyway, Tuesday night I wrote an elaborate detailed write-up on how this was a great game that was a team effort vs. Blumenthal and the gang. Somehow my write-up got lost in the shuffle and doesn't exist on this page, so here I am trying to make up for it. From what I remember, BoM jumped out to a big lead with great team play from the 5 that showed up for them that night. For SnR it was all Blumenthal who had 22 of his team's 44 points. SnR made a late rally but it was thwarted by a "Ball Don't Lie" comment made by Blumenthal. Dilworth lead his team in scoring with 16 en route to a 51-44 victory, giving them their first win of the season.
