First, I want to say how enjoyable this season was for me. Bringing back the CoEd league was high on my priority list since the return of CAC Basketball and I'm glad we were able to pull it off in the Summer.

Even better, the best two teams all season long were able to meet in the Finals to decide the title!

Similarly to their first meeting, Soup-A-Stars used their size to build an early 15-6 lead. The Soup-A-Stars zone was on point, swarming OTR shooters and making life difficult. There were no clean looks in the opening minutes. Any window of daylight was immediately shut off. OTR wasn't hitting contested shots so they fell into that early hole.

But Lucy Barrett (6 points, 3 assists, 4 steals) slowly started to turn the game around for OTR. She caused a couple turnovers, led the break and started to get the OTR offense in gear. It was a looooong process but someone had to start it!

When Tom Fallon (2 points, 13 boards) picked up his 2nd and 3rd fouls (both offensive) and headed to the bench, I know Soup was in trouble. Sure Tom didn't socre a lot in this game but he was all over the place on the defensive end, gobbling up boards AND sucking in the OTR defense even when he wasn't threatening to score. Chrissy Eckman (10 points) had really benefited from his presence as it freed her up for a couple clean looks she easily knocked down. Without Tom on the floor, OTR was able to pull to within 2 at halftime.

Coming out of halftime, SOUP was revitalized. They got more buckets from Eckman and Neil Chapin (8 points, 7 boards) hit a 3 to bump their lead back to 7 as OTR came out of halftime with league MVP Michael Downing (12 points, 4 assists, 4 steals) getting a breather. That's when Lester Carter (15 points, 9 boards) put the team on his back! He waived off help when Fallon tried to back him down in the post and then went to work on the other end. It wasn't easy getting shots to fall amongst the trees but Lester found a way!

When Madison Chudy (8 points) poked away an errant pass and raced down the other end for an easy 2, Soup-A-Stars called a TO and that's whne the game turned for good. OTR was able to recoup and come out of the time out and reinstall their press. It led to a couple easy buckets in a row, including a Carter 3 point play. When Downing gave OTR their first lead with 8 minutes to go I could feel the inevitability of their title win. When Kareem hustled for an O board, flinging his body out of boudns with no regard for the stage close at hand and Lucy knocked down the J to push the lead to 3 it was a WRAP. Those are the kinds of championship winning plays that were needed, so OTR went out and made them!
