Winter 2012: Co-Ed 5v5 League Champs: Sexy And I Know It

Whos Your Staddy G Got Game Answer 5 Game Skid With 3 Game Spurt To FInish Season
G Got Game 64 Above the Rim Jobs 48

Can it really be week 9?  In four seasons of Co-ed West basketball I think this one went the quickest.  Decent matchups all around tonight, but I wasn’t expecting any surprises.  I generally don’t expect surprises…this is why I had Missouri going all the way and Duke in the Elite 8…not that I’m still mad about it or anything.

All four games of the night were rematches.  In the first two games, the victor in round one completed the season sweep, but after the Monstars earned a split in the 8:00 game, G Got Game was trying to avenge their week 2 loss against Above The Rim Jobs.

It seems like G Got Game finally has a core of players that they can count on to show up on a somewhat consistent basis.  After missing the middle portion of the scheduled, Greg seems to be a pretty reliable player in recent weeks, Andrew, Marie and Amber rarely seem to miss a game, and Keith has been a fixture in the lineup as of late.  If he keeps coming, that will be a HUGE help.

G Got Game got out to a fast start with an early highlight reel behind the back save by Amber.  She played her best game of the season.  She saved the ball on the sideline with a behind the back pass and narrowly avoided a collision with the scorer’s table.  The play led to a basket, and the basket led to a 12-1 game opening run.

Johnson eventually hit a three for the Rim Jobbers first basket of the game exactly 10 minutes into the game.  ATRJ kept it close in the early goings, but they gave up far too many second and third chances as four of the six players on GGG had atleast four offensive rebounds.  Keith, Andrew, Greg and Amber combined for 19 offensive boards on the night.

D-Boll kept the Rim Jobbers in it in the first half with seven of his nine points, but at the break, GGG led 30-16.  Right out of the break, former Fairfield great Kevin knocked down a TOTALLY intentional bank shot three.  When a Fairfield alum hits a bank shot, it’s allllways intentional…wink wink.  That shot made it and 11 point game, and ATRJ hung around for a while, but GGG had too much.  Desmond was instant energy, grabbing rebounds all over the place, Keith and Greg were too strong in the middle, Amber and Andrew were knocking down shots, and even though Marie didn’t have her best shooting night, she still stretched the defense and kept them honest right now.

Even if she only hit one of her threes, Marie did make one great contribution on the evenings…I’m fairly certain after Andrew DeSTADler made a bucket I heard her say “nice shot Staddy!”  This sets up so many horrible “Who’s your Staddy jokes,” which is great, but how am I only JUST picking this up in week 9?!  What the hell?!?!

Kevin started to heat up late in the second half.  He almost pulled one from waaay downtown at my urging, but instead, he passed it, got it back and knocked one down from about one foot closer.  His 5th three of the game and 4th of the second half would make it a 56-44 game with 5:15 to go, but Amber had an answer with a long two to give her what I believe to be a season high 12 points.  G Got Game finished with three straight wins; this one coming by a 64-48 margin.

    NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS

-My favorite basket of the game came from Boozer.  After a pair of offensive rebounds in traffic and no luck on the put backs, he grabbed another offensive board and just flipped it backwards over his head for the deuce.  He scored all eight of his points in the second half.

-Not easy to win a game by 16 points when you shoot 2 for 20 from beyond the three point arc…I guess you take it however you can get it!

-It wasn’t my favorite basket (I’ve already given that award to Boozer), but Keith might have had the most impressive basket of the game with a one handed “taps” style put back on a ball he really had to reach for.  I have no clue how he got that things through the cylinder, but I hope I hope I don’t have to deal with that mess in the combined co-ed tournament…oh he plays for two teams?  Crap.
