Winter 2014: Corporate 5v5 League Champs: Industrial Economics

    Industrial Clinches Corporate East
    Industrial Economics 57 Autotegrity 41

The final showdown in the Corporate East was a bit anti-climactic since Bill Johnson was not able to make it for Autotegrity and Steve McAveeney was left to fend with Giant Derr the whole game. Also missing was the underrated Eliav Kahan (I don’t know who rates these guys, I certainly don’t), and I hope these guys were at a wedding or a business dinner or something because got damn you let your teammates down in the ‘ship.

Whatever, I guess Auto won the Corporate Uni last season so no big deal. It’s worth noting that when this game started one of the locals at the Y asked me, “what is this a 30 and over league?” so HAH, you guys look old. McAveeney was getting his old man moves on in the paint and gave Auto an early lead. In fact, they pulled away and led by 7 or 8 when IE called their first timeout, but they were able to regroup and play their game, and soon enough the game was tied.

The story all season has been Derr cleaning up on the offensive glass to cover up the shortcomings of IE’s offense, and that was the case again as he got to the line or finished in the first half. IE led 28-26 at the break, and expanded that lead with some stellar defense in the second half.

Granted, Auto was missing their PG, and their best player, but they really stalled out in the second half and the sole highlight came when Compean had a poke steal and a layup to trim the deficit to 43-33. Auto hung around, down by 10, but Ben Silton hit a clutch wing 3 to make it 54-41 and it was pretty much over at that point. Congrats to IE as they move on to the Unification Final….three?
