Tenney Buzzer-Beater Sends ItsNotLuck to the Finals
Fightin Nimrods 59 ItsNotLuck 61
Pregame:
First of all let’s get this out of the way: Before this game started I went off for 41 in a big time win the game before so excuse me if I forgot some of the details from this game. Ok, so, we had Fightin Nimrods vs. ItsNotLuck in game 2 of the semifinals and I noticed that FN did not have Kuz or Cavano to start this game. Ohhh babyyyyy. Upset watch!? YUP! Here we go!
First Half:
ItsNotLuck jumped ALL over FN right out of the gate as they looked like the more confident team. Tenney and MacDonald were running all over the damn place and it was clear right away FN was going to have their hands full with these two. FN would call a timeout after they trailed 13-5.
After the timeout, FN started to calm down and make some plays. Quinn started to convert some drives and McCusker chipped in as well. Gans was still a ghost out there but that is expected since it was a playoff game. After a few stops and timely buckets FN got right back in this thing as I expected they would.
The rest of the half was pretty much a standstill. Neither team could get any separation over the other and it looked like we were in a good one the rest of the way. ItsNotLuck would end up leading by just 1 at the break.
Second Half:
The second half featured some thrilling action, with neither team leading by any more than 4-6 at any given time. I think the largest lead of the game was 6 but I forget which team. Anyways, this was a good game, and the finish would not disappoint.
With about 4 minutes left or so Cavano enters! Yikes. I am not kidding when I say I said this to myself: “this is going to hurt FN.” Anytime a guy comes off the street in the middle of a game it rarely works out. You aren’t in the flow of the game and you aren’t warmed up.
Anyways, Cavano jumped in and immediately snagged 2 offensive rebounds which led to a huge three for FNs. Sadly, that would be the only bright spot for Cavano. Fast forward a bit and Cavano would have a critical turnover which Tenney took the distance for 2. This would give ItsNotLuck a 3 point lead in the waning minutes and seconds. I wish I could remember but someone for FN hit a massive 3 to tie it up. Thus, we had a tie game with about 50 second left and Harry called for last shot. Smart move.
After ItsNotLuck ran the clock down to 25 seconds, Harry called a timeout. Out of the timeout, the ball ended up in Tenney’s hands. Tenney made one quick move on Cavano and knocked down a running floater off the glass to end it a la LeBron James against the Raptors. BALL GAME!
Grades: (in order of the stat sheet)
Gans (C): Not a great game for Gans. Poor shooting and poor shot selection. Got a few big threes to fall to salvage his night. He wasn’t the game guy we saw all season though.
Quinn (A): Quinn was excellent in this game. Team high 23 points and 15 rebounds. Can’t ask for much more. He busted ass out there all game long.
McCusker (C): McCusker was pretty average in this game, but he was asked to do more since Kuz and Cavano were out. 4/9 from the FT line is pretty bad though as is 0/4 from deep.
McNabb (B): Played his role well and didn’t hurt the team. Knocked down a 3 too. Solid showing.
Cavano (F): Showed up really late and shouldn’t have stepped on the court. Coming off the street into what was basically a tie game usually ends badly…and it did. Tough way to go out for this guy.
MacDonald (A): Stellar game from this guy. Solid on D and killed it on the glass with 11 rebounds. 27 points ain’t too bad either.
Tenney (A): MVP of the game. Tenney was a beast attacking the rim on his way to a game high 29. He did his usual thing on the glass too with 16 rebounds. He was an animal out there.
Harry (C): Didn’t really hurt his team but didn’t do much either. Missed all of his threes and only snagged 2 rebounds. He coached his guys to a win though so that counts for something.
Dan (C): Solid defense despite some questionable fouls called on him. Also took some bad shots but overall he was fine.
Amir (C): 0/3 from deep with little else. Didn’t hurt the team though so by default can’t go lower than a C.
Marks (B): Marks gets a B for being the only guy other than Tenney and MacDonald to score. He provided a tough presence inside even if the stats don’t show it.
FUN STAT: Tenney and MacDonald combined for 56 of their team’s 61 points. That is tough to do!
