Game 2 – Vandevil vs Mark it Zero
Two long tenured Franchise B teams. Some more vile and disgusting than others. Especially considering Mark It Zero has quite the player in “Jet”, who is also just a really great guy. Then add in that nice guy David Pendergast, and Brian. THEN THE CAC HOFer SCOTTTTTYYYY, I think Mark It Zero is my favorite collective group of people, if only they had amir.
So back to basketball. Vandelay has been playing very well together, with Frongi coming alive in the night time (and after last seasons hot garbage), Vladi is still slicing and dicing defenses and releasing jump shots about a second before he touches back on the ground. Koller is still Koller and I cannot wait for Harry to lock his ass up come playoff time. This game was one that I thought really was going to be as closer if not closer than the first game. The matchups here are great with Pendergast playing a slashing role making it somewhat difficult for teams to match up. On the opposite side, Koller and Vladi running a pick n roll can just cause headaches and enough shit talking from them to warrant a football style tackle.
The start of this game was exactly that, Koller was getting busy EARLY. Putting some nice post moves and quick footwork to lead his team with 24 on the night. Koller was getting some great support from his teammates as well. Frongi was hitting mid range jumpers and finishing his layups. I really am a fan of Frongi playing well again. He doesn’t look as sad as he did last season, and a sad frongi is never fun. I do think him not settling for the first open look and even taking and making plays to turn good shots into GREAT shots has helped this team a ton. One of the more lighthearted moments during this game was Amir and Myslef telling Paul to do the right thing and immediately sub back in for Koller, Paul let us know quickly though “I know my place here.”. It looks like the Vandevil ways have entirely engulfed Paul. Poor Paul.
On the other end we had Pendergast trying to stick it to the CAC world and prove he can shoot and not just lay floaters up to the rafters before they come barreling back down to earth and ultimately the basket. Pendergast though, was not truthfully able to affirm that idea in my mind, or anyone else on the court this night. He was 1/5 from 3pt land, but still lead his team with 22pts. I’ve heard Harry drop the line time and time again, THE JETTTTT IS READY TO TAKE OFF. Sadly I feel we are still waiting for that huge Lift Off This season from the jet. On the defensive side though, I may actually put Jet in the DPOY conversation. He jumps passing lanes so well, he had 3 steals tonight and it seems like that’s an every night occurrence. Also with Jacques there this Mark It Zero team has some great defensive pieces, sadly both names mentioned focus more on guards, and well, Koller ate tonight.
Grades
Mark It Zero
Dave – B- – Dave was doing all he could, I think I would have liked to see him try to slow down Koller after he was eating the entire game
Jet – C+ – Man JET TAKE OFF!!!!!!!!! The shooting touch has not been there sadly for the jet as of late, but his defense has been able to continue throughout. Something he does NOT get enough credit for
Scotty – D – Scotty, you’ve played sooooo much better than this game. 5pts, 1/3 from deep. Just wasn’t his night
Nasty Nate – C – Nate had 5, if he’s hitting he hitting, but sadly a 1/4 night, little off.
Jaq – D – 2pts, 0/3 from deep & what I usually credit a great defender who LIKES to play fullcourt for 40min, wasn’t there tonight offensive or defensively.
Brian – D – Brian had the tough task of guarding Koller as the lone true “Big Man” on Mark it zero. Koller ate, Civale did not, and to add to Mark It Zero’s shooting woes, went 0/4 from deep. Brian has also played better.
This entire team has played better, thats really what it comes down to
======================
Vandevil
Koller – A – He started the game EATING, nice footwork, quick feet, and buckets galore. Great game from Ben. 24/10 and 4/5 from the FT line.
Vladi – A- – What a great guy on such a grotesque team. Vladi had 16, and 6 assists. Not even remotely phased by any of the defensive assignments thrown at him.
Paul – C – Paul told me he knows his place on this team, and because he wouldnt sub out Koller every chance he could he is AVERAGE
Frongi – B – Frongi is back like he never left. 15pts and just a steady flow and pace coming back to life with this guyzer.
Dan – C – Dan, I kinda of forgot he played tbh, he didn’t do too much to stand out but he is a nice addition for some size to what is usually a tiny Vandevil team.
