Spring 2013: Franchise League Champs: Jerk Store

Jerk Store wins first Franchise League Title

Finally...the Game 3 Write-up from the Franchise League Finals. I know, I know, it’s about four or five days late, but hey, at least it’s not coming out several hours before the next game is played. (HI TIBBS!)

The huge storyline going into the winner-take-all G3 was that Marc LeBlanc would not be available for the game for B Draft HoF. which, obviously hurt. Thankfully for Matty Bells and Co., Joachin came to play in the first half, as did one of the steals of the draft, Kacey Carver.

Everybody, including myself (check the Franchise Title Game video for my reaction) counted HoF out, but they battled the whole first half. A Joachin layup a few minutes in tied the game at six, and even after a 6-0 run by JS led by Ryan Oullette’s first three of the night, Kacey hit a three and another Joachin layup brought it back to one point again. Long story short, HoF would not go away.

Up 21-15 after another Ryan bucket and a three (17 1st half points!) Jerk Store appeared to start pulling away from the shorthanded HoF. Nope! A Joachin turnaround jumper, followed by Ghost’s first made jumpshot of the night, followed by another MJ layup tied it back up at 21. What was happening?!?!?!? Even stranger, a few possessions later with the game tied at 23, Ghost hit another jumper to give HoF the lead. Madness.

HoF’s largest lead of the night came after Joachin’s final bucket of the first half, to make it 29-24 - MJ’s 15th and 16th point of the half. Jerk Store remained unphased knowing they had more talent in this particular game, and Ryan went on his own 8-3 run to end the half to tie it at 32, a run that included a pair of treys from Oullette.

In the second half, things just got ugly for HoF. Kacey only scored one point in the second half after putting up twelve in the first half - a huge blow to HoF’s offense. Plus, Ghost and Matty combined for seven second half points, leaving the rest of the load to a tired Mike Joachin. The result? Sixteen total second half points from HoF, and a double digit loss to end the Finals.

In the second half, neither team shot particularly well, to be honest. Eight minutes in, Kuz hit a layup to make it 39-37. A few possessions after the tie had been broken, a defensive breakdown led to a wide open Kap 3 in transition to make it 46-39, with nine minutes left. The shot absolutely felt like a dagger, even though it was only a seven point game with plenty of time left. Why? Because at that point, HoF only had seven second half points...total. They were not coming back.

Just for fun, Kap hit another three to make it 51-41 a few minutes later, and the game and season was over for both teams. Jerk Store went on to win 62-48 after all the free throws and what not from the HoF, with Sam Werth earning MVP honors for the Finals. He played great all season, and had a 19/8 in the title clinching game. Well done, Jerk Store.
