Spring 2010: Lunch League Champs: Arch Stanton

Disappearing Vladi Doesnt Cost his team as Arch Moves to Finals Anway Asks him to stay home next week
Arch Stanton 84 Of Mice & Manischewitz 72

Longest Write-up Title Ever? I think so, but I'm not shortening it! It will make up for the short write-up I hope.  After another devestating playoff loss (at least it wasn't in the finals, right!?) I got to head to the scoreboard and keep stats for this one. Hooray!

Without Vladi I thought we had some serious upset potential in this game.  We basically whittled the game down to Chise vs Majic, the two MVPs the Lunch League has ever know (oh yea, spoiler alert, Chise will win the MVP Award when it comes out tomorrow, can I scoop my own awards?!).

So as expected, both marquee players came out with guns blazing.  But it was the contributions from Arch Stanton's other guys that gave them the early edge.  Garrett "The Animal" Tingle was aggressive on both ends, and as you can see in the box score, nearly pulled off a TDub in the playoff game. Talk about a time to step it up.  Speaking of which, I haven't seen The Greek play this well since last St. Patty's day and he immediately went out drinking, then disappeared for the next two months. Is that going to happen again?!

For M&M, they had guys step up as well.  Mike Trostel played the best game of his short CAC career and was all over the place. Between nabbing steals, finishing on the break and crashing the boards, the kid was key to M&M's early success.

But still, they found themselves trailing 49-40 after Arch ripped off an 11-0 run early in the second half.  Chise apparently just used the first half to get warmed up and was in the process of beginning to drop 31 second half points.  The winner of Saugus' annual (and oh so prestigious) GOAT, Chise found his stroke over the weekend and unlike myself, avoided adding to his risk of contracting skin cancer. Did anyone else notice how red I was? Could barely lift my arms.

Enough of the excuses!  Chise was heating up, the Greek was still pouring it on, and M&M had no answer.  Majic took a season low 18 3s (jokes and jokes and jokes) and it wasn't enough . Ryno was taking advantage of his mismatch downlow but they couldn't keep pace with Arch's prestigious offense.  Man, Vladi better not ruin their chemistry next week, this team really has a chance to win it all, and we know how he disappears in the second round (even if this in the Finals) of the playoffs.

So who ya go, Arch Stanton, winners of 8 straight, or Still Smokin' the deadliest offense in the league.  Pick Your Side! Good luck to both teams on Wednesday at Noon, don't miss a minute!

    USA ! USA ! USA !

Sorry, I was more than a little distracted for this game. With Henderson dragging me to Porter Tavern (oh the fight I put up) at 9:30 in the morning to watch the USA game, sobriety had no chance to win the morning.  So 3 tall boys later, a stiring, richtor scale shattering group winning goal celebration, and a mad dash to make it to CAC on time left me a tad, off balance.

Thankfully, Watson had bailed on us earlier in the day (my phone was off people, stop blowing me up!) so the game hadn't started yet.  I had time to catch my breath.  But uh, is that SMul behind the whistle?!? Yikes we're desperate. But at least he's not BFlab!

So of course Chise is in attendance for Arch Stanton (they're still undefeated when he shows up). Why couldn't he miss this week, like last!?!  Of course, Arch still pulled that game out too, maybe he just has that effect on his teammates, can anyone say MVP?!

He came out red hot spotting Arch an early lead.  Cheese was aggressive and everything was clicking on offense for Arch. Hell Vladi was even relevant for the first time in weeks in any league!  There were just too many options for the Racers to overcome.

I think we really missed CUBA.

    Nah, I'm just kidding.

I made Biehler chase Chise around on D because I was clearly in no state of mind to do so. It hurt us on O as a team. Well that and I jacked about 300 3s.  Thanks for only recording 11 of them Paul!!

No late push for the Racers, but we'll be back, fully staffed and sober next week!!

Anyone Want to Play Some D?!?

This was a win off the bat for Still Smokin', as the Assassins only had two rostered guys (hint: they're the ones showing up in the stats) and had Cleary and Manny for fill-in duty so we could get a game and stats going.  Right away you could tell there wouldn't be a whole lot of D played.

Watson came out jacking up shots and so did Cruz.  It was a bit of a back and forth battle between the two.  SS led 18-17 with 13 to go in this game, but from there it was a takeover.  They dominated the rest of the half, hanging 56 points by the break (up 20) on a seemingly defensless Assassins squad.

SMul continued his streak of well played offensive games (A1 on Monday people!) while Reeves also got into the mix.

But Cleary led the furious second half rally in the second half.  He had a 36/12/7 line for all those wondering.  Majic is going to be PISSED when he sees the type of production that Ken is putting up for *other* teams rather than his own.  You can only show up when your team has a bye man?!

With DEE dropping dimes and Manny crashing the boards we had a stirring comeback on our hands.  Over the first 4 minutes of the second frame AA went on a 26-8 run, just a hell of a run to pull within two quickly and suddenly.

Now in most leagues a 66-64 score would be a final, but not in this game, there were still 14 minutes left!  Alex stepped up and saved the day with a monster second half, crashing the boards hard (21/20 night with 6 assists!) to get the team back on the right  track.  With Cruz struggling from downtown, he decided to take the ball to the hoops to pad the point total.  Every week he creeps closer to the two league leaders, me wonders if he'll over take them by the end of the season, time is running out !

Smokin rebounded for a nice win (despite the fact that they were getting it either way) and the Assassins are still searching for that first win...

Oh and how did I not mention this earlier?! VLADI was the ref for this game and was actually serviceable.  I know, I'm just as shocked as you are!! Can we get him for the rest of the season?!
