They did it...
Going Postal 65 Glass Case of Emotion 79
Pre-Game:
Championship game and Going Postal (GP) was missing one of their starters and a very key player in Jon Allen. The only thing I can say is hopefully last week wasn’t his last game ever in this league but if it was damn he went out on top. Anyway GP had the rest of their guys and would have to play really well to win this game. Glass Case of Emotion (GCOE) had all their guys ready to play.
First-Half:
Early on it looked like GP was going to stay in this game and make GCOE play well to beat them. Although they never really had a big lead, for the first 11 minutes of the half they were up and at this moment were up 19-16. A minute later GCOE took the lead back and was up 23-20 for the first time. GP just kept battling and was able to pull within 1 with about 5 minutes left in the half down 30-29. Andrew Ray, Dustin Williams and Stephen Newman were all doing a great job of scoring to keep things close. Unfortunately for them Ryan Shaffer, Mike Fraher and Jeff Arinella not only matched but also exceeded their production. GCOE was up 45-37 at the half.
Player of the Half:
Jeff Arinella 20 pts, 2-4 from three, 2 stls, 6 drebs, 7 asts
Second Half:
Again I can’t say enough about the effort GP put forth. With about 14 minutes left in the game they were only down 49-45. GP did a good job of shutting down Jeff and Mike offensively while Andrew and Dustin were doing a nice job of scoring. The problem again though was Ryan Shaffer and Chris Danner stepped their scoring up. GCOE pushed their lead to 58-48 with about 10 minutes left and never looked back going on to win 79-65.
Players of the Game:
Jeff Arinella I must say that Ryan Shaffer could’ve easily been MVP of this game and the playoffs but Jeff had a triple double which is just ridiculous.
Grades:
Alec Peralta B I honestly don’t think he had an awful game. When you are typically the 5th man and then become a starter it’s sometimes hard to adjust. I think overall his numbers slightly exceeded what he had done on this season regularly and overall in the playoffs he definitely stepped his game up.
Andrew Ray B from an overall scoring perspective and just stats in generally he had a solid game but he didn’t shoot well from the free throw line and the yelling at the teammates thing wasn’t really necessary as it didn’t help matters. I also would’ve liked to see him get more assists this game as well. Ray is the man though and had a great season regardless.
Dustin Williams A- I don’t really recall him doing too much wrong in this game aside from the poor three-point shooting. He gave it all he had and stuffed the stat sheet. Overall I think Dustin had a solid season.
Stephen Newman B+ I’m not sure if it’s fatigue or what but his first half numbers were really good which makes his overall numbers look good. I think he had some great moments in this game but I have seen him play better so I can’t justify going higher with his grade.
Chris Danner A I think his numbers don’t truly reflect all the positive things he did on the day. I also feel like his block was at a key moment along with the three he made. Chris had a really solid season and improved in almost every game this season.
Jeff Arinella A+ Capped off his MVP season with an MVP playoff performance. He was the best player in the league all season.
Mike Fraher B he has definitely played better during the season but his team won and he made plays. His production was mostly in the first half but being that such great players surround him he doesn’t necessarily need to do much.
Tom Covert B is numbers were ok but like I thought he didn’t just show up to play he really was there only if needed and provided some production when called upon. I think he hadn’t played in a month too so he definitely had a solid game.
Takeaways:
GP had a great season and in the back of their mind they will always think about what could’ve been. Unfortunately for them it wasn’t so all you can do is learn form the experience and try again.
GCOE becomes the first team in this short leagues history to go unbeaten. I don’t know if this will ever happen again and you have to give Mike Fraher a lot of credit for drafting this team and the play of his guys. Congrats again and hopefully I see everyone next season.
