Winter 2018: Over-30 Legends DraftLeague Champs: Going Bazooka

    I basically called it...
Careful What You Swish For 68 Going Bazooka 70

    Pre-Game:

So here we are at the championship game.  Who would’ve thought that the first game of the season would feature the same two teams in the last.  The difference today is both Going Bazooka (GB) and Careful What You Swish For (CWYSF) had their entire teams.  That means the true champion would be crowned.

    First Half:

With 10 minutes off the clock GB was up 23-12.  As the half continued GB was able to maintain their lead and up 38-29 at the half.

Halftime Stats:  Brett Cooley 6 pts, 2-3 from three, 2 stls, 1 dreb, 1 ast

Dave Murdoch 1 stl, 1 oreb Ryan Train 6 pts, 1-3 from three, 1-1 from the free throw line, 5 drebs and 3 asts

Sean Bridge 9 pts, 1-2 from three, 2 orebs, 2 drebs, 1 ast

Yakov Malkiel 8 pts, 1 dreb

Andre Pelitier 0-1 from three, 1 dreb, 2 asts

Brett Royer 6 pts, 0-2 from three, 0-3 from the free throw line, 1 stl, 3 ast

Carlos Rivadinero 2 pts, 0-3 from three, 3 stls, 2 drebs, 2 asts,

Dan Ly 8 pts, 2-4 from three, 1 stl, 1 oreb, 1 dreb

Frank Malsbenden 3 pts, 1-2 from three, 1 oreb, 3 dreb and 2 asts

Jeff Moccia 15 pts, 5-6 from the free throw line, 1 stl, 1 blk, 2 orebs, 4 drebs, 1 ast

    Player of the Half:

    Jeff Moccia

    Second Half:

With 15 minutes left in the half GB was only up 48-43.  A few minutes later after a huge Dave Murdoch three. CWYSF took a timeout up 51-50.  From this point on we had a game on our hands.  I will say this too the game itself was great to watch with a lot of chatter and physicality.  Fast forward to about 30 seconds left in the game GB was up 68-65.  Ryan Train got a great wide open look and bang the game was tied at 68.  GB had plenty of time left to set up a play.  GB did the smart thing set up a play for Moccia.  Moccia did what had been doing all game.  Catch the ball in the post, fake middle then go up right.  Moccia went to this move but Murdoch had enough and fouled him ultimately fouling him out of the game.  Moccia was clutch knocking down both free throws.  There was still 1.5 seconds left.  Ryan Train tried a last second shot near half court but it was blocked by Brett Royer who told Train “Get that shit out.”  Murdoch being the ultimate teammate jumped on the court after expressing that wasn’t necessary.  Nothing ended up happening and the game was over with GB winning 70-68.

    Player of the Game:

Jeff Moccia sealed the game from the free throw line and just dominated.

Grades:  Brett Cooley C should’ve been more aggressive but just was unable to get it going offensively.  Still managed to contribute in other areas just didn’t have the game his team needed from him.

Dave Murdoch B- if his team wins he probably gets an A but despite his clutch three and good defensive stats, it can’t be ignored that Moccia dominated him.

Michael Ress C didn’t do much but also didn’t play much.

Ryan Train A was the best player on the floor for his respective team.  If he hits that game winner he gets a + added to his grade.

Sean Bridge A had a great shooting game and did all he could.

Yakov Malkiel B was amazing in the first half and then basically fizzled away in the second.  Still had a solid game though.

Andre Pelletier B+ didn’t play much but still managed to get some good production on the night.

Brett Royer A- docking his grade for his three point shooting but ultimately made the game winning defense play while still stuffing the stat sheet.

Carlos Rivadinero A+ shot well and got some good stats.  Ultimately his defense on Cooley is what got him this grade.

Dan Ly A produced well when he played.

Frank Malsbenden A I know he doesn’t think he played well but did exactly what was needed by his team.

Jeff Moccia A+ the most dominant player in the game.

    Takeaways:

Sucks for CWYSF but they did have a good season but only 1 team can win it all.  Congrats to GB your Winter 2018 champs.
