Fall 2010: Women’s 5v5 League Champs: Cripple Triple Threats

I guess after a few close games with the Lady Luckies over the course of the regular season the Cripple, Triple Threats had had enough. Led by point guard Keri Downs’ 33 points, the CTTs coasted to a 20-point victory Wednesday night at Winter Hill.

The CTTs held a four-point lead at the 16-minute mark when Downs went for three straight three-point plays. At 13:22, their lead had grown to 10. A few minutes later, CTT Anna Bell caught fire, and after two threes and an offensive rebound that led to a three by Downs, the CTTs held a 20-point lead at the half.

It wasn’t until four minutes into the second half that Lady Lucky Cat Maher, the league’s most prolific shooter, hit her first three. After a Lindsay Walsh steal that led to a three by Val Beckwith, the Luckies had pulled within 12. But CTT Brittney Cross answered the Lucky run with a three of her own, and it was all Cripple, Triple Threats from there on out, with a final score of 71-51.

Bell ended the game with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Maher and Beckwith both contributed 16 points for the Luckies, who were missing one of their top scorers, Barbara Duplaise. But the MVP of the game went to Downs, who also added three assists and three steals to her point total.

Congrats to the CTTs on a great season! Hope to have you back to the CAC in the winter.
