The Crashers are the only team in the league to play Step Off close so far and they did it again through the first half. They come out on fire and full of energy and Colleen's 13 first half points helped keep them within 6, 35-41 at the break. Unlike the first game of the night, these gals were having no problem putting the ball in the net and Step Off staged their well balanced offense that is tough to stop. Once again the Crashers were plagued by low attendance and without subs its hard to keep up with the endurance that Step Off has displayed week after week. Just early in to the 2nd half, Nicole and Liz started to stage their patented fast break attack by getting steal after steal and were quickly leading by double digits. Colleen continued to make it rain hitting 6 3 pointers in the night but defensively the Crashers started to fade. Steph slinked her way inside while Sara "Invisible" Cox scored on numerous 5 foot jumpers. Kellie was a beast on the boards and put in a great double double though it can't go without mention as I've yet to see it happen but Kellie got blocked! Nicole gave her a taste of her own medicine blocking Kellie from the side on a putback and for those of us who know the taste of the Kellie leather sammies, it was nice. Step Off has made their mark in the league and cruises to the finals to take on the CAC Blockers in a 1/2 seed matchup game. We hope to see everyone back again!

CAC Blockers 68 Pink Ninja Assassins 65 F/OT - CAC Blockers Rally to Face Step Off in Finals Attention Ladies: If you want to submit a team, submit half a team, or sign up as a free agent for the Women's 5v5 next season, send me an email ASAP! (tibbs@cacbasketball.com) The deadline to sign up is Monday, and games start May 22nd, to be played at the Charlestown High School. Spots are filling up fast, so save yours now! Amid the confusion of the game, the CAC Blockers repeatedly overcame double digit deficits to prevail in overtime and head into the Thursday night Finals (@ 7 PM) for the inaugural Women's 5v5 League. The confusion stemmed over the lack of understanding about the forfeit rule. The Pink Ninja Assassins could only get 4 to show up for the game. The Blockers didn't want to play the entire game 4 v 5 (or 4v4 for that matter) so they gave the Assassins Miriam (8 points, 6 assists) to play the game 5v5, but thinking they would get the win no matter what. The Assassins came out playing hard, building a 22-8 lead behind the shooting of the Little Big Hurt (14 points, 5 steals) and transition offense of Mighty Mouse Glenda Cancel (11 points). You'd think that with the Player Prez in attendance, he could have clarified things, but of course not, I didn't want to be accused of favoring one side (you know which one I'm talking about). So the CAC Blockers dug in and stopped fooling around. The Slumpbuster (10 points, 16 boards - and a nickname I'll never give up on) and Daisy Dukes (9 points, 9 boards) started attacking the paint hard. Gripp (24 points, 9 boards) shook off a rough first half and started to attack the basket. Despite all that, Sweet Lu (19 points, 14 boards) still had the Assassins up 6 with 2 minutes to go. Hurov had been hitting the J all night long (12 points, 11 boards) and it looked like we were really going to have some controversy to end this game. I was right, but not in the way I thought. Sweet Lu got 2 techs near the end of regulation (she couldn't foul out, as they had no subs) and things got interesting. Gripp converted her free throws, and the game got tighter. But with the ball again, she got called for an offensive, and lay on the floor in pain. Unable to walk, let alone play, and with the Rainmaker (5 points) already fouled out, Miriam had to switch back to her original team. Thus, 5 v 4 for the final minute. Moonboots (14 points) stepped up to the plate and tied the game at 60 right before the buzzer on a pass from the Nose. In OT, it was all CAC Blockers as they survive and advance. Sure they're underdogs in the Finals, but absolutely anything can happen!
