Winter 2011: Women’s 5v5 League Champs: Cripple Triple Threats

No Hobbling Here - CTT cruises into Round 2
Cripple Triple Threats 82 Pyramid of Greatness 37

I said it in the first write-up and I’ll say it again, in the proud tradition of Pete Song, I’m going to mop the floor with Matty’s pathetic effort at covering the Ctown YMCA. Man I’m going to miss Pete next season, I hope he looks back fondly on these last couple of months knowing the Women’s league will miss him.

Anyway, I’ve seen the Cripple Triple Threats in the past, and somehow, they look better than ever. I thought that’d be hard to do, but it looks like Erica has added a couple solid players in Trish and Justine.  And by solid, I mean, would be an MVP candidate playing on any other team. Maybe we need to hold a dispersal draft with the CTT players for the rest of the league.

They jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back.  It’s not that Pyramid of Greatness was missing a lot of shots or anything; they just weren’t getting any OFF. The CTT defense was suffocating. They tallied 8 steals and 4 blocks in the first 6 minutes of play alone and really set the tone for the rest of the game.  How does anyone score on this team? Oh they’re only giving up 30 points per game? Yea that seems right.  I’m not going to regurgitate the stats, you can see them for yourself.  Hell of an all around game by, well, everyone on CTT.

Sure, Pyramid of Greatness’ season ends earlier than the squad would have liked, but I’ve got to say, it’s quite an accomplishment for a free agent team to step into a league and nab a playoff spot.  They beat out a veteran team (the Dawgs) and another new one that had high hopes coming into the season.  Cleary they learned to play together quickly and grind out a couple tough wins.  As the game went out, Madeline was still cheering them on even as she was trying to recoup from a nasty spill to get back into the game and contribute.  Hopefully they come back next season (oh yea, Ladies, SIGN UP for the Spring leagues!) and give it another go!

Unlike the last game where I went into painstaking detail, seriously if you ever have insomnia, let me know and I’ll give you reading material that will put you to sleep faster than an ambian, I’m going to reflect on the things I thought about while watching the second half of this game.

    -          I made the observation earlier in the season to the Co-Ed leagues that CTT would wipe the floor with most of the teams (except Shirt Before the Shirt of course) and after seeing their new players, stand by that assessment.

    -          You should all know the Kent’s rep (Will) by now, as he’s watching the games every week and locking up the school afterwards.  What you don’t know is that if Lil Will get’s daddy’s J he’ll be starting for CTown High in 10 short years!

    -          How can CTT possibly get down the floor so quickly.  One minute Cross is getting a rebound and the next she’s finishing after a nifty throw back pass from Erica

    -          Oops, that last one was game related

    -          Jeff Green was supposed to be the athletic swing man that solved the C’s youth and athleticism holes.  Why can’t he rebound the ball or finish on the break?

    -          Who’s in charge of this league and why can’t they get me a scoreboard that the plug doesn’t fall out of once a half?

    -          CAN ANYONE STOP CTT FROM WINNING ANOTHER TITLE?!!?!

Next week’s game is at 7 PM @ the King School (850 Cambridge Street – Cambridge MA).  Be there for the second round!
