Winter 2013: Women’s 5v5 League Champ: Slaughterhouse 5

    S-5 Completes The Perfect Season
    Slaughterhouse 5 60 Net Profit 37

Slaughterhouse-5 completed their perfect season, steamrolling Net Profit by a final score of 60-37. With the championship win, S-5 ran their record to 11-0 and were without question the league’s most talented and consistent team. With the loss, Net Profit finished as the league’s runners-up, rounding out the season at 7-4.

It was only fitting that the star of S-5’s championship win was the league’s most dominating force, Katie McNamara. The standout center finished the season strong, scoring 20 points, grabbing 20 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists, and swatting away a pair of shots. Simply put, no team all season had anything resembling an answer to McNamara in the paint. Also performing well in the victory was the team’s unsung hero, guard Andrea Bailey. Bailey’s workman-like attitude and unselfish play was huge in S-5’s tremendous team chemistry and her 7 assists last night helped open the floor for her talented teammates. McNamara’s frontcourt mate, Trish Freeman (14 points and 7 rebounds), also turned in one of her best performances of the season. Freeman and McNamara’s high-low attack helped S-5 cut through the NP zone for easy layups and open three point field goals time and time again. From the first game of the season to the last, S-5 was always the league’s premier team and it was only fitting that they rolled to a championship victory.

On the losing end, Net Profit simply didn’t have the firepower to stick with S-5. Pamela Robinson, an exceptional scoring guard, was strong in defeat, scoring 20 points though she struggled mightily from three-point land (3-for-12). Unfortunately, Robinson’s three point struggles were shared by her teammates as the team shot 5-for-18 on the night, making S-5’s pack-it-in zone all that much more effective. In NP’s defense, the team would have benefitted greatly from forward Danee Harrison’s presence. Over the course of the season, Harrison proved to be the best post defender in the league. We’ll never know if Harrison would have made a difference in the championship.
