Fifth Man of the Year: Brian Ganley/Ghost

A lot of the time Brian was an afterthought on this team with Keith, Billy, and Clarke all being primary options on offense, but Brian’s solid defense and timely offense all year long made him one of the best players in the league. He turned it on late in the season and helped Dem Checks win some big games down the stretch.

Ghost was an automatic assist this year. He shot at least 70% from midrange and was one of the X-factors for why Ghost Story was able to win so many games and put up so many points. Ghost Story racked up assists all year and I’d say almost half of them were on passes to Ghost for a mid-range J.

Shooter of the Year: Nick Mazzeo

A threat to pull up the second he passed mid court, Mazz was the leagues most lethal and consistent shooter. Shooting at a clip of 48%, Mazz was able to shoot The Corp back into games and also help them blow teams out.

Defensive Player of the Year: Joe Hoerner

This came down to Joe and Gill, who were both deserving of the honor, but I went with Joe because he was the best defensive player on the best team in the league. He had too many layups off of steals to ignore and has some of the quickest hands in the league.

MVP: Lyon Van Voorhis

This was a tough decision between Lyon, Hof, and Mazz. Ultimately, I went with Lyon because he was unbelievably consistent on a team that finished in second place. He was the only real big man Ghost Story had, and I don’t know how many games they would have won without him. He played in all ten games and posted a ridiculous stat line of 21/13/5/1.6/1.9. He played on a good team and had help from four solid teammates, but Lyon was the most valuable asset this year.

Playoff Lines

The Corp (+6.5) vs. The Crab Boys

The Crab Boys finished the season with the league’s best record after dropping their first two games of the season. In my opinion they are the most complete team in the league, with zero weaknesses. They are deep, can play D, and can shoot the shit out of the ball. The Corp is led by high-volume scorer Mazz, and if he gets hot, this game could sway in favor of The Corp. The X-Factor in this game is the secondary scorers for The Corp. We know Mazz will get his, and MGW will do his thing in the post, but will guys like Eliot and Sydorko step up and hit big shots when needed?

A47A47 (+4.5) vs Ghost Story

Ghost Story was consistent all year, but A47 really played well down the stretch. The key matchup here will be Lyon vs. Struck in the post, as both players can score at will in the paint. Ghost Story runs like a well-oiled machine when Kap is working the pick and roll with Lyon/Marc, so I expect to see a lot of that. Will A47 be the first team to actually take away the long jump shot from Ghost, something no team has been able to do this year? Pat K will provide a difficult cover for Ghost Story, as his length enables him to get his shot off over anybody. The X-factor in this game could be the energizer bunny that is Jesse coming off the bench for A47. Leading the league in steals, he is always a threat to start a run for his team.

Good shit Max!

Suck it Keith!

Agreed with Lyon as MVP. Wasn't really a close one this season. He killed it!

Nice to have order restored and the DPOY trophy back in its rightful place.

Zikaras deserved more 5th Man consideration!

Swecker deserved more All-Defense consideration!
