For those with games at King Open tonight, custodian said we can also use door 4 on Cambridge street if you can’t find door 25. Door 25 is closest to gym though and on other side of building near the baseball field.

Turbo Team?  More like TURD-O team!  Now Yous Cant Leave wins 57-51

Billy Jackson filling in here for this writeup that I will not-so-boldly aim to make a more thrilling read than the game was to watch.

I'm waiting on Tibbs to give me access to enter the stats, so no promises on when I'll get them into the system.
Notes:
Score was 21-20 at halftime. Or something like that. I have no clue. I do know that Sam Pollock was wearing a highly questionably greyish/blueish shirt when his team was supposed to be wearing white. So much for Pollock being a man of honor. While Noah, however, showed a rare move of honor by not enforcing the jersey tech, which perhaps he wishes he could take back now.

Pollock and Hendrickx were really good in the first half; Hendrickx is going to be a good fit for this team. I gotta ask though... why the x at the end of last name? I need to see the family lineage of this last name. I want to find out exactly who is the 14-year-old, pink-haired, punk-rock girl who doesn't quite fit in but really wants to be cool and different that originated the spelling of this name.

My favorite move of the game was Harry pulling the old "show and go" where he upfaked a shot which got Noah 3 inches in the air flying by him, then Harry took a beautiful one dribble into wide open space, then just did nothing with it and passed the ball for a reset. I dubbed it the "show and go nowhere". Although I've seen Harry attempt 10-foot jumpers before, so I kinda get the pass there.

To everyone's surprise, just 1 minute into the second half Kofi curiously called for a sub. To nobody's surprise, just 3 minutes later Frank would yell that he was ready for a sub. Noah's team was down 33-28 at this point.

Early in the second half Leon Russo, who I thought played great, had a possession where he was playing taps on his own misses until he eventually sank it to put his team up by some number of points that will remain one of B Draft's unsolved mysteries.

One possession, Noah was jogging (generous) in the half court set and bumped into Harry's legs which somewhat tripped him and sent him dramatically tumbling to the ground in what can only be described as the "Most B Draft play of the game".  Noah got the whistle which I think is what he was aiming for there as they were desperate for something to go their way down by 6.

I think Clasby really is a good scorer, but he looked like he was out here to make an impression tonight. I don't think he made the one that he wanted to. Intentionally missing a free throw to get your own rebound, with 10 minutes left in the game down by 7, and you commit a lane violation, finished as runner up for "Most B Draft play of the game". Feels like a move Mike Vella would try to pull.

Great job by Weinstein to knock down free throws down the stretch and Harry's team to secure some key rebounds to secure the victory.

Awards
3 stars - Weinstein - He was running Liam off screens to perfection and drilling jumpers repeatedly in the second half that always kept his team in the safe 5-10 point lead range throughout the second half.

2 stars - Pollock - Was great in the first half, really all over the place, and it shows in the stat line. This guy undoubtedly is a professional at killing B level talent.

0.5 star - Liam - Had some awesome takes to the hoop, esp in the 4th quarter, that kept his team in striking range. Docked half a star for making my pregame prediction look stupid.  I still <3 Liam tho.

Fellas,

Apologies to Mugatu's and the Letalien Job for not having stats for this game. Didn't realize I would be doing the scoreboard so did not bring a pen and the score sheet. Its a damn shame too because it was a pretty great back and forth game with some stellar individual performances. I tried to keep track by memory for at least points, but it takes most of my meager brain power to work the easy job of keeping the score correct so I quickly realized that it just wasn't happening.

Would be happy to help out on the scoreboard if we need a fill in for future games.

Thanks again for stepping in and running the scoreboard, Ghost. Was a hell of a first game, particularly once everyone shook off some rust and started hitting jumpers. As predicted, Kodra got his 4 threes, but my team scraped together enough to win, including a terrific defense performance by our rookie and namesake on JDM down the stretch and a clutch layup from Cawley to give us the final lead.

Good write-up, you hit all your keys in this one. It was a good showing for us in week 1. Our lack of size didn't hurt and we ran some good offense. We are going to be a tough to handle every night.

I will say though - the new gym is really nice!  It’s bigger than MLK and has space for corner threes.

Macaroni and Threes 64

Say No to Snow 55

Macaroni Tries to Give the Game Away

First off I’d like to thank our sponsor, Who’s Line Is It Anyway, because the stats are made up and the points don’t matter. Actually the points do matter, and I’m pretty sure I got that right at least in my first game ever doing the stats. But it wasn’t that heard early on with Macaroni taking a huge early lead, scoring something like the first 12 or 15 points of the game. The Nestler – Holland Twin Tower combo looks to be just as potent this season as last, though given their profile I’m a bit confused by the team name, I don’t see all that many threes from this squad. Holland especially was doing work early, nearly having a double-double at halftime. Lavallee also looks like a steal (sandbagger), showing a lot of potential in the first half. Meanwhile Snow couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, taking and missing a lot of threes. Flowers especially was not gun shy, maybe trying too had to make his mark in the league. Shooters gotta shoot I guess? The rest of Snow wasn’t any better though, I’m pretty sure they missed every free throw in the first half. This had all the signs of a blowout, with Macaroni up 37 – 18 at halftime.

The second half turned out to be a different story. Not only did Snow stat to actually hit some shots, but I think Macaroni may have started to get a little complacent. Gans started doing his thing and making some threes from the logo, and Spadaro began to look more like the rookie sensation that we saw last season, and before you know it was down to single digits. Unfortunately for them Nestler had a couple of big ass blocks (when he wasn’t trying to give himself some assists on the sideline), couple with some clutch Holland free throws down the and Macaroni was able to hold on in the end.

Looking forward Calderan was smart to keep the dynamic duo together again, and I also liked the efficient play from Thompson, looking like a really strong team, but there are already rumors of playoff availability. Meanwhile Snow is a small team with streaky shooting that could struggle against size, hopefully they can start getting more contributions  from their 5 and 6.

No More White Women 2020 67

Flying Sparklemuffins 61

Muffins Not Quite Sparkly Enough, Lose in Overtime

Okay, starting to get my feet under me a bit, the stats should be a little more accurate this game. This game was a thriller though, I don’t think anyone ever had a double digit lead. The game also introduced us to the Whitney – Baynes duo, who are somehow even bigger than what we saw the game before. However they both seemed a bit shaky early on, not quite taking advantage of their size like you think they would. I think they may have been in awe of their teammate Russo, who came in strong rocking a cutoff jersey and a 70s pornstache. However the veterans across from them on NMWW2020 were totally unfazed. I was especially impressed with Etheridge early on, doing his best Charles Barkley impression, battling for boards among these giants with a 1 inch vertical. Throw in some Shaffer midrange here, some Kap threes there, and NMWW2020 go into the half up 26-21.

In the second half Whitney and Baynes both really started to come into their own and looked like they were ready to take over the game. Vlajkovic was doing his best, but there was not way to stop it, he could only hope to contain it. He started to struggle with some fouls, but then Dodakian was making up for the slack and coming up with a lot of clutch rebounds. I also like a lot of what I saw from Seow, whos about the size of Whitney’s left leg but was making up for it with lots of spastic energy. He also called bank on a monster three that really seemed to demoralize Muffins, but Fathy was there to respond, he couldn’t seem to miss, I think he needs to start chucking even more. However MNWW2020 where just too steady, working the clock and holding on for the last shot. But Whitney comes through in the clutch with a giant block at the buzzer to force overtime.

In overtime though NMWW2020 took the lead and wouldn’t give it up. Muffins was settling too much and NMWW2020 was money from the free throw line, particularly Kaplin who didn’t miss all game.

I have a feeling that as the season goes on Whitney and Baynes will get a better feel for BDraft and start to dominate, especially with Jackson facilitating, who had a lot of great feeds that others just couldn’t convert. Meanwhile NMWW2020 is just solid through and through, with tons of depth that has proven to be successful in BDraft in the past.
