#B1West Power Rankings - Wednesdays @ CH-CH | CAC League Discussion | Discussion
April 27, 2012
Spin’Em won this league based in Waltham last season and immediately bailed after winning the title. They wanted to stay a big fish in a small pond (moved to B2 Thursday @ CCC) instead of seeing how’d they’d far in a murkier pond with more predators. I don’t know man analogies are hard.
We’ve got a really, really good 6 team league here on Wednesday nights at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School. Follow along using the league hashtag #B1West on twitter for live-tweets during the games and links to the live-stream of the games on youtube. Yes, I do all that and still keep accurate stats. No need to thank me, I’m the #BestStatKeeperAlive and have the t-shirt to prove it!
6 – SAM I AM – Projected Record: 1-8 – I know only one thing about this team, they will 100% lead the league in players named Sam! Team captain Doug (huh??) tells me they’re a much better squad than the GullyCricket Elite team that was entered into the Spring season, and that’s a good thing. That team was, can we call it dysfunctional now? Has enough time passed? Good, let’s go with that. Anyway, I expect a more harmonious unit in the Fall. If I go up and ask your name and any of you just say “Sam” you’re getting a swift kick in the nuts. Don’t fuck with me this season!
5 – Block Pahhty – Projected Record: 1-8: It’s been a while since Matt Moore graced the CAC basketball leagues and I don’t think I can put a face to a single name on this roster. I don’t see a ton of scoring outside the team captain, but maybe they’ve made new friends in the intervening years. You know, it was so easy to make new friends the last 18 months. I had just moved to Acton with big plans of being all neighborly in the Spring of 2020, going to cookouts, gracing people with my presence, buying their friendship with Tree House beer. You know, suburban dad shit. But no, none of that happened and now i’m stuck interacting with my family. Ugh…
4 – Mid Range Disciplined – Projected Record: 5-4 – Matt Shenton has surrounded himself with a lot of offensive firepower in the Sellew Brothers. Even though the rest of the roster remains a mystery at the moment, that’s more than enough for me to project them as a playoff team. Plus I owe Matt a solid or three after last season. Don’t be surprised if he leads the league in assists despite passing maybe 4 times per game.
3 – Intramural Heroes – Projected Record: 6-3 – It’s almost blasphemous to project a team that lost their last game of the season by just 3 points to turn around and fall 3 times in the following regular season alone. How’d I get there you ask? Did I just pull these projected records out of my ass? Well yes and no. I did a quick W/L projection for every game this season based on the schedule. And then I did this cool thing called adding. It’s pretty revolutionary. I am clearly just padding the word count at this point. I’ve got the Heroes splitting their season series with the other 3 playoff contenders. This is a tougher league that the one they played in last Wednesday. That’s a good thing right?
2 – Big Tuna – Projected Record: 6-3 – I’m holding last season’s swoon without Lisella against them juuuuuuust a little. Sure he’s the MVP, always leads any league he’s in in scoring and usually assists but someone should have stepped up in his absence right? As long as he’s not planning on taking another honeymoon or wearing his wedding ring while playing (god i hate guys that do that), Big Tuna should return to their winning ways without much issue. If you guys don’t wear your CAC jerseys (I know you have them) then no stats for you!!
Same goes for the Intramural Heroes actually, they’re flagrant jersey violators.
1 – Space & Pace – The rivalry is renewed! In the Spring, Big Tuna went undefeated against every team in their division that wasn’t S&P. Unfortunately they had to face off 3 times, with Space & Pace prevailing all three in convincing fashion, including in the championship. I couldn’t ask for a better 3 teams to cover this season. Anything the other 3 bring to the table, including twitter commentary, is a bonus! I’m sick of the lurkers. No more good pub for them.
Now, Space & Pace returns to us as a champ, but it looks like they’ve taken their lumps during their offseason. Valacer, fresh off another title, this time with the Tap All-Stars, thinks he can add just anyone to the roster and win a league. He’s had to resort to signing Kevin Tang to come off the bench and bomb 3s. If anyone can ruin a good championship run, it’s my man Tang and S&P’s free throw shooting. I suppose that’s a strength of Tang’s, unlike literally everyone else on their roster, so maybe Steve knows what he is doing. Assuming back injuries haven’t derailed the Marino Brothers they’re the favorites to win this league unless their poor free throw shooting finally dooms them (pst, like it did IH last season).
Lisella, Tuna +250
Colas, IH +500
Ja Marino, S&P +750 (feels disrespectful doesn’t it?)
Shenton, MRD +2000
The Field +4000

Probably should have noted that we aren’t starting until 9/22 due to the roof project at CH-CH

Having played against the top three teams. I’d have Intramural Heroes at number 1. They are a well oiled machine out there.
5v5 Draft West S21 Champs and Unofficial Uni Champs "Get Rich, Die Trying".....Old League Champs S19 "Nice for what?"...…..BDraft F16 3Peat Champs "Evolution".....BDraft S16 Repeat Champs "Visionaries".....BDraft W16 UNI Champs "Foreign Fanatics" (BDraft W16 East Undefeated Champions "Sorry for Jabari")......Kap 2v2 Invitational Champion.......

1min left, winning by 8+, and other team is fouling… My time to shine…50% of the time.
this would be a marked improvement for Space & Pace!

WEEK 1 LINES
FINALLY we get going Wednesday night at Healey School (5 Meacham St – Somerville). Everyone’s had that hammered into their heads right?
6:30 PM Big Tuna vs Intramural Heroes (+2.5)
Huge game to kick off the season as the boys from Intramural Heroes step back onto the court after their devastating finals loss to Bada Bing in the Summer season. Have they shaken off the collective feeling of dread that always hits after a finals loss? I know my player profile doesn’t reflect much recent play, but back in my CAC days I was losing a finals game every other season. Once I lost 3 in one season! Good times, good times. ANyway, you never get over that loss, but you CAN move on to the next one. I think the Heroes are going to welcome back newly married man Joey Lisella with an L
7:30 PM Block Pahhhty vs Mid Range Disciplined (PICK’EM)
I’m always excited to see a couple new squads go at it! Well new to me anyway. I see most every team, so it’s always a pleasure to put new faces to names i’ve seen on the site. On Monday the live-stream didn’t work at Healey, so I’m hoping the wifi issues are resolved and I’ll be able to stream the games on youtube. Yes you’ll be able to go back and watch the games after. You can judge every single bad call and pretend all the good ones didn’t happen. I know that’s how every other CACer operates, why should you lot be different??
8:30 PM Space & Pace vs SAM I AM (+11.5)
Nothing to go on here other than the presumptive champs putting the rest of the league on notice that they’re not to be trifled with this season. Word on the street is that the Twins are so upset about being called out about their free throw shooting that they’re promising to make half of their free throw attempts this season. Now coming off a Spring season where they combined to shoot 31 of 76 (40%) I think that is a wildly optimistic number, but it wouldn’t be week 1 of players weren’t making wild boasts that they can’t live up to. They better hope someone says something even more ridiculous as the season goes on (my money is on Lisella) so we all forget about their promise to hit half their free throws. HALF! HA!
