#B5v5Arlington Summer Preview | CAC League Discussion | Discussion
April 27, 2012
Most of you know me, and for that I apologize. I’ll be holding it down behind the scoreboard on Thursday nights at the Fidelity House (25 Medford St – Arlington) and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I live way down route 2 now, so any time i can exit before sitting in that mess through Fresh Pond I am pumped! I’ve got a little preseason preview here, but make sure you’re following along on twitter during the season. I’ll use the hashtag #B5v5Arlington to live-tweet during the games. Mostly I’ll be heckling Gary Lorden, but I’m sure I’ll find a few new guys to needle during the season. I occasionally sing your collective praises as well, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.
After I put together my initial power rankings, I went through and simulated the season 10,000 times and came up with each team’s average record, point differential, accounted for possible injuries and ok I just guessed the outcomes of games one time through the entire schedule. HOWEVER I was very impressed with myself that the records lined up pretty well with my initial rankings. Let’s jump right into them.
Stallions – Projected record 2-7 – I don’t see a lot of scoring on this team. Of course I’m only basing it on the roster online and their previous CAC stats. Maybe their new guys are good??
Goon Squad – Projected record 3-6 – The bad news for Goon Squad is they’re going to be facing a VERY tough league this season. The good news is they THRIVE when they’re double digit underdogs, which will happen quite a bit after week 1. Having Michael Thompson for the full season certainly helps and if they actually finish all 9 games that they start, they might position themselves to surprise a team or two in the playoffs like this past spring season.
AB Alums – Projected record 3-6 – AJ needs help!! No seriously, he needs some help. Can someone else PLEASE hit more than a couple buckets each week. You’re not going over quota, i promise.
Hartbreakers – Projected record 5-4 – Tucker Landy is a beast you guys

and it helps to have a guy who can do this
##CACMidLife Olivier with a deep 3 that would make Trae Young blush. Hartbreakers rolling

but I’m a little concerned about the team chemistry now that Jared has been demoted as the lead singer of the band. They should obviously be named Tucker and the Hartbreakers. Everyone’s saying it. Could locker room dysfunction derail an otherwise championship caliber roster??
Grapes of Rathjens – Projected record 4-5 – Trevor Larsen will be doing a LOT of heavy lifting and I don’t think I’m actually not sure why I’ve got the Grapes of Rathjens over the Landies. Is it because Luke Rathjens can back Larsen up most weeks too? Yea probably that and not just my random first gut instinct.
7th Floor Crew – Projected Record: 6-3 – It’s better to have 2 guys that can score than just 1. Most of the teams behind my top 3 have one go to guy and everyone else sorta plugs in with a big night here and there. This team has two guys that can go off simultaneously and make them really hard to beat. Phil Leotsakos and Paul Brooks are hard enough to guard on their own. When they’re on the floor together?! LOOK OUT MAN!
TAP All-Stars – Projected Record: 6-3 – Gary Lorden was VERY confident about his team last season and I’d expect him to be this season as well. And why shouldn’t he be? He was smart enough to stick to playing on Thursdays. That Monday imposter was horrific. He’s once again surrounded himself with teammates that have much better skill sets than his own.
Seal Team 69 – Projected Record: 7-2 – They emerged from the East as league champions last season despite some up and down patches in the regular season I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to repeat with virtually the same roster in a very similar league.
Again, follow me on twitter. For a guy who hates human interaction I am starved for attention

B 5v5 Arlington Week 1 Preview
I guess I’ll call these ‘lines’ even though I don’t know enough about these new rosters to set any accurate ones in week 1. I was WAY OFF last night in Waltham, that will change though.
This season at FIHO there’s no occupancy limit and you don’t need to wear masks while playing. Feel free to scout your opponents before and after your games, distract me while I’m trying to take stats or comment on the live-tweets. The entrance to the gym is around the corner on Compton St, don’t go to the main 25 Medford St entrance, the woman there will just shoo you away. Let’s get to it!
6 PM Seal Team 69 vs Grapes of Rathjens (+11.5)
Rough pull for the Rathjens. They’ll take a couple weeks to get their hoops legs back under them but open up with the defending champs? Yikes
7 PM 7th Floor Crew vs TAP All-Stars (-5.5)
I promise to talk about someone other than GDiesel for the All-Stars this season. Eventually
8 PM GoonSquad vs Stallions (+10.5)
Obligatory double digit underdog line for the GoonSquad. That’s the only way they win games. Yes I know its against the
9 PM HartBreakers vs AB Alums (-2.5)
Some turnover for AJ and the Alums. We’ll see if it translates to more wins this season. It’s not REALLY his fault they struggled in the Spring, or is it? It probably is.
Anyway, I’ve don’t have much insightful to say about this week, so allow me to recycle some tips to get the most out of your cac experience for you noobs.
1 – Heckle. It doesn’t matter if it’s your opponents, your teammates or even me (I haven’t attempted a lay-up in 15 months but will absolutely destroy you all for missing one when you get fouled and miss). Guys that can be heard are guys that can be talked about. it’s that simple.
2 – Don’t Be A Dick. You’d think it’s simple enough, but you’d be surprised
3 – Obsess Over Your Stats. Duh. I can be bribed for better ones…
