Headed Into Vegas 74 Layup City 64
It’s only fitting that the ‘ship came down to Ian (who made the Draft League what it is today) and the guy who talked a record amount of shit in their rookie campaign, aka DKeith. Despite apparently losing his first pick to a season-ending injury earlier, Ian’s squad seem to have it together. They went to the rack again and again as you would expect from a team called Layup City.
Ian finished a slow coast-to-coast run for an and-1, Dennis scored some garbage buckets on offense and came up with a couple of bigtime blocks on the other end and Tyler controlled the boards as LC jumped out to an early 25-18 lead. Then DK, Andy Lee, and DK again hit three threes to put HIV back into the lead. JC’s team looked like they were taking control, but Kayce hit a couple of contested shots including a three ball at the buzzer (plus a foul that wasn’t called) to put LC up 31-30 at the break.
Eventually athleticism wins out in a title game, and HIV had more quickness at depth at multiple positions. In fact, LC had 1 sub, which is a lot for them, and Devon got into immediate foul trouble in the first half. He came skiing in for a big block though, and that started a response from LC that included two skyball threes from Loubins and kept them in it at 45-44.
HIV just got too many chances in this one, mostly because KC’s crazy hops led to six offensive boards. You give DK enough looks from three and it’s gonna be over, but it was a nice give in go with Weisberg that got DK going in the second half and made it 53-49. As LC started to run out of gas, HIV turned them over and found DKeith for his fifth three, and a few minutes later he added a sixth for good measure.
Ian fought back with his strong takes, molasses-like fervor, but all he really succeeded in was lowering his career-high 95 percent free throw percentage by rushing shots in the last few minutes. That’s back-to-back for the Kid Correia in Draft League huh? I’d put $ against the three-peat though
