MKT Wins The A5v5 Summer Championship
MKT 70 BoneYard 58
If any of you guys are looking to jump into the most competitive league for top-level basketball players, the A5v5 is the league for you. Get in touch with Jason (the really pale kid we call Casper, not the good looking ((yet always 5 minutes late)) blonde dude that scores the games at Winter Hill) at CACBasketball@gmail.com and make sure you get your team signed up for our next great season, kicking up after Labor Day.
MKT is the champion. On the strength of an early 19-5 run to start the game, the gentlemen from MKT prevailed over BoneYard in a bruising 70-58 battle.
MKT can add their names to the illustrious Wall of Champs and they earned it by owning the boards and shooting at an impressive 12-for-20 clip from The Land of Three. Sure, the game's sequences are usually harped upon in the final minutes by the minions, but MKT really did their heavy lifitng in the game's first seven minutes by going off on that big 19-5 run. That really was the difference in winning.
Title Game MVP Tony Barros led his team in scoring with 17 points and his 13 points in the first half were HUGE on impact. Whether it was a big pull-up 3 or a driving lay-up, Barros wreaked havoc with the ball in his hands. Another hero of the big run at the beginning was Georgi, aka Sergei Fercan. Glassed three to start? I'll shake my head and smile from now on.
BoneYard gave it a good go as they managed to trim the lead to 6 at the break, down 39-33. James Marois' performance was terrific as he got 13 of his 17 in the first half (like Barros) along with 10 boards. Still, BoneYard looked to be one rotation guy short in this one, especially in a muggy Charlestown B&G as MKT had seven in uniform to counter BoneYard's six. In what appeared to be a smaller gym spatially, MKT's zone was a masterful tactic. BoneYard's outside shooting woes plagued them as they went 10-for-26, which isn't bad, but it's not .600 from 3FG.
MKT got some bigtime scoring from Tony Gallo in this game, as Tony hit 3 triples and made some key drives to the basket. Clutch performance in this one from T. Gallo. And hey, even Kobe's biggest fan, Adio Ashafa, got in on the action as he was really hyped up for this one, but his drives in the 2nd half kept MKT out in front by double digits.
BoneYard kept the heat on, but Shane Brunette's incredible block on Bourque triggered a big run that essentially put it away. The Almost MVP, Gerry Corcoran, hit a huge 3 after using a sweet upfake and then hit a big lay-up. MKT up 16 with 6:00 to go. BoneYard would get it down to 9 with less than 2:00, but MKT was good with the free throws. The Captain, Dave Connolly, banked two home for some frosting at the end.
Kudos to BoneYard for a great run to the finals and more kudos to MKT for winning the A5v5 Championship. Deserving champs, undoubtedly. Most importantly, thank you to everyone who played in this league to make it the league it is. Make sure to sign up for the fall season, it should be a great one!!!
