Spring 2006: A1 League Champs: Junior Mafia

Mafia capture A1 title in most exhilirating waySartori takes home MVP
The Haters 74 Junior Mafia 78

Oh my goodness, for those that did not attend this championship game, shame on you, because you missed quite the epic battle.  The brick was on the line and both teams could taste it.  Early on, it was like watching two countries bomb the crap out of each other as both teams were letting the 3 fly.  What more could I ask for as a spectator, both stars lifted their teams to another level.  For the Haters, Alex Delpleche (38pts) was the heart and soul of the Hater early lead.  On the other side of the court, the game's MVP, Jay Sartori, the born gamer, ended up with a game high 39 points on 7 3's.  6 of which looked like he borrowed Cheese's canoe on the Charles to shoot them from.  But seriously, no matter which team won, Al or Jay was going to get the MVP with the spectacular way in which they played.  At the half, the Haters had a 1 point edge.  In the second half, the supporting cast got in the mix.  JM's Ian Tosti put on a shooting clinic (20pts), bombing away himself, just like his team mate.  Not to be out done, Mike Kaup (20pts) hit some even bigger 3's to answer Ian and Jay's.  Seriously, every time a team made a five point run, the other team would answer with six points.  At times, the crowd up on the balcony was going bonkers.  With each momentum swing I was getting so excited that the Commish almost had to put me on time out because I was so amped up at the elevated play.  Soon, the big men started going at it.  All game, Tibbs (16pts) and Gary (13pts) battled with each other, beating one another up.  Eventually, JM ended up with a 3 point lead with a minute left to go.  Twice, JM went to the line to ice the game for 1 and 1, but failed to convert on the front ends.  However, the Haters couldn't counter.  Eventually, Ian Tosti's free throw with 1.5 seconds left to go iced the game and got Tibbs his first brick ever at CRFC.  Tibbs, your cherry has been officially been popped, welcome to manhood.

Red Sox Game Ties One Hand Behind JJ& OGD

Brady and Turin were getting smashed at the Sox game, leaving Ramon to lead the team into battle, except without giving him a weapon or sheild.  Junior Mafia played a phenomenal game all the way, dominating all game.  Tom Covert tried his best to bang with the JM big guys (12rebs), while Ramon did all he could, dropping 31, but that only scratched the surface with Dirty having an off night from the floor.  Tibbs lead JM team in scoring (18pts) and defense (4blks 2stls), while the rest of his team contributed significantly.  It was almost scary, seeing before my very eyes, everyone on JM fitting together.  Machado isn't even close six feet tall, yet he, Eisenstein, and Olmstead controled the glass when they were in.  Satori and Tosti both scored 16 a piece, while not even looking back the entire game.

Meanwhile, Turin called me and informed me that he was able to throw a beer at Damon once the game was over.  Mike thanks for using your one call from the station to tell us and thanks for a job well done on Damon.

Edwards Steps it up BIG TIME for WS

That's right, with Danny Salazar handling his business front row at the Sox Game, the WS needed someone to step it up.  The call was put in and John Edwards, confidently answered.  With 16 points, John provided the offensive spark that the WS needed to get going.  He would have had more assists, but Dave McClaren was reffing and not playing.  Along with John, Slobodan provided an added boost with 16 of his own points.  Despite a brief period in the second half, Bingo Long didn't cut the lead to under 7 the entire half.  Keith Thompson put up ridiculous numbers with 19 and 19rebs.  But the bright spot is that Kurt (14pts 10rebs) looked a lot better from last week, which is bad news for the rest of the league in the future.  An ice breaker for the Window Shoppers as they get their first win and look to go for two in a row next week against, who else, but Jim Jack and Old Gran Dad, who have put a bounty on my head for the 6th preseason seed.

Al and Gary Dominate in Decisive Victory

Al smooth and Gary "the Headliner" Fisher were like two kids in a candy store tonight.  The Ruffians had matchup problems all night, being undersized.  Al (35pts) and Gary (23pts) took full advantage of foul trouble, smaller defenders and slower defenders all night.  Just as I thought the game was over, which i should know after 6 yrs, the Ruffians began to make a run.  Cheese, absolutely gave his all, the entire game to keep the Ruffians within a puncher's chance in a game, that by all means, should have been a 30 point loss.  In fact, he had a triple double with 36 points 10 rebounds and 12 assists which earned him this weeks BGood Player of the Week award, just for his heart filled effort in defeat.  Once Cheese started to penetrate, he found Neild Montgomery (21pts) for his jumper every time.  Despite all of Cheese's efforts, Al, Gary and Mike Kaup (17pts), who still hasn't picked up his first technical (came close though, but Dave was too tired to call it), made sure to keep the game just out of reach.
