Spring 2007: A1 League Champs: Love Explosion

Another Summer Another Brick for OCal
Love Explosion 68 Sofa King 45

How many times are we (I) going to doubt the Coach?? With another perfectly contrived game plan, Love Explosion was able to hold the MVP Hitman to just 10 points and pull away early in the second half to win O'Cal another Brick, ending the drought.  Kenny Rivera (8 points, 3 steals) and O'Cal (17 points, 3 steals) chased the Hitman around all night, and every time he drove to the hoop, two additional defenders were waiting for him.  As a result, the Sofa King offense sputtered, putting up only 24 points before the break.  The bright spot was the play of Brian Greenberg (16 points, 10 boards) who hit everything from inside and hustled for boards.

In the second half, they briefly got to within 4 points before Love Explosion really turned it on.  Co-Final MVPs KO (16 points, 14 boards) and Dan Salazar (18 points) turned up the heat.  KO was his usual Beast self, while Salazar was money from downtown and tossed in 15 second half points as the lead continued to grow.  Not even the inspirational return of Roger Lau (13 points, 3 assists) could lift Sofa King to a higher place.   Congrats to Love Explosion, the Summer 07 Champs, and we hope to see you all next season.

Hot Scissor Gets First Victory of the Season

No Trevor for Another Bad Decision meant that the defense would need to step up in a big way to keep the game close.  Either that or the offense would have to find someone to score a ton of points.  Wrobel (27 points, 11 boards) had the turnaround working all night long.  Kevy Kev (23 points 8 assists) had the jumper falling as well but it wasnít enough to balance out Hot Scissor Actionís offense.  Tibbs (28 points) and Tosti (20 points) made sure of that.  Despite arriving late, and with no warm-ups, Ian ëTNTostií came in and hit his first 3 shots to get rolling.  It took until the second half for HSA to really get in a rhythm, but they finally started pulling away.  Macho and Preacher added 10 and 11 points respectively.  It was the Preacherís defense that made the biggest contribution, switching back and forth on Kev and Wrobel to lock them down.  Noah, bringing a fan to the game, added 6 points and 7 boards while Hutch made sure to send Sergeís layups into the wall twice.

Salazar Heats up as Love Explodes

Danny Salazar (31 points) overcame a rough first half and shot his way back into the game, finishing 6-14 from downtown, 5 of 6 after the break.  By jump-starting the offense, Salazar was able to get other guys open looks as well.  KO dominated the paint against the Ruffians four guard offense.  Ostrander put up 22 points and pulled down 20 boards for a Beast of a night.  Everyone contributed for Explosion.  OíCal had 15 to go along with 9 monster boards.  Kenny Rivera continued to play lock down defense getting 3 steals and blocks to go along with 12 points.  Kip got into the action as well with 12 of his own.  For the Ruffians, missing Karl really hurt the offense.  Another shooter was what was needed to spread the floor.  Sweens led the way with 28 points as his jumper had just gotten better as the season goes on.  JaySar hobbled his way to 19 points, while Cheese and Eugene each added 6.  Despite taking their first loss, the Ruffians are in good position and will recover next week when Karl makes another appearance.

    Sofa King 88  Rum & Coke 65

    No Subs? Sofa King What??

In stampeding over Rum & Coke last night, Sofa King has proved to be one of the best teams in the league and showed that they can run with 4 if need be.  It helps when the Hitman (30 points, 9 boards, 8 assists) is on point from everywhere.  This weekís B.good PoW was just relentlessly slicing through the defense in the first half.  Did I mention the 8 assists!! What put his candidacy over the top was the Alias (8 points, 11 boards) in the post game press conference.  ìEverytime I guard you (Jared) I turn into Kendrick Perkins.î  Now I know no disrespect was  meant toward the dude making millions for his defense, but the Alias wasnít complimenting himself when he uttered those words.  Brian Greenberg (26 points, 18 boards) came alive in the second half as Sofa King started to pull away.  The Rattling AK put up a double double with 10 points and boards (another guy with 8 assists!) and the reigning RoY added 22 points to go along with 12 assists.

Matt Fisher led Rum & Coke in a surprising breakout role with 19 points.  The 3ball was falling, and Matt wasnít hesitating to let it fly.  RoY and Hinton added 14 points a piece but there just wasnít enough flow on this night.  Kurt added 10 and 9 as a late arrival.  With all the results of last nightís games, we have 4 teams currently in 5th place at 1-3.  The rest of the season is wide open, and everyone will be trying to avoid falling to a bottom seed.

6 For The Ride 84  Mr. Adamian 73

Vladi Shoots 6 past Mr. Adamian

Vladi Nechev (31 points) was at the gym for the first game of the night, and stuck around until he played at 9:40.  Now thatís dedication!  Whether or not that was the reason for his red hot shooting and 31 points in undetermined, but it didnít seem to hurt.  Mr. Adamian had their chances down the stretch, but 6 For the Ride just barely kept them at bay until it turned into a free throw shooting contest.  Q Walsh was aggressive and has been refining his game around the rim.  His 17 points and 12 boards were huge.  Phi Slamma added 16 points to go along with 19 boards.  Mike D played within himself and contributed 12 points and 8 assists, so thankfully I donít owe him a 12 pack.

E Fizzle was in control most of the night, and his 38 points were a week high.  Brady added a solid double double with 12 and 11, but Mr. A was really missing the presence of Yavor as another scoring threat.  Allegedly heís eyeing a return as soon as next week, and his team definitely could have used him on this night.
