Fall 2008: B1 5v5 League Champs: ODB

Shoot Score Repeat ODB Brings Home 2
    ODB 66 The Corporation 50

ODB made history last Wednesday night, becoming the first 5v5 B team to win back to back titles. Ummm, so what itís only the second seasonóget off it! MVP and (un-released to the public) Rookie of the Year, Billy Durbrow anchored down the teamís offense with the help of Itís in Ya BUTTler, one of the leagueís premiere long-distance bombers.

Durbrow unleashed double-double fury on The Corporation, playing more aggressively than Iíve seen him all season. Heís come a long way from his rocky Vermont driveway where he used to cry when big sister Callie handed him his ass in a mean game of 1v1.The Corp struggled to lock him down and got off to a rough 0-5 start from the field. While they were rushing their shots to try and keep pace, ODB was lookin smooth all over. They pushed the ball with intensity and purpose, filling up the passing lanes on fast breaks, as Cheese fired off one brilliant pass after the other, with Butler, Pistol Pete and Jack on the connecting end.

Finally, 10 minutes into the half The Corp was forced to call a timeout down 17-9. They came out explosive after this, as Riordan dropped back to back bombs and then went on to complete an AND1 for 9 quick points to keep his boys in the game. Pete Keel was a consistent look in the paint, flashiní his fade-away floaters for the camera. It was a quiet half for Farnsworth, but after some ass-bustin The Corp managed to bring it within 6 by halftime and I was expecting big things in the second.

But, ODB came back out on fire. Durbrow continued with his unstoppable footwork on the block, workin a few drives into the mix as well. Butler only continued to heat up from outside and as a team ODB just looked flat out nasty! JackPot showcased a soaring hook-shot, Pistol Pete fired up a dagger of a 3 and suddenly the lead was built back up to 15.

The Corp sure as hell wasnít about to roll over, however, and Dan Smith made sure of this, firing away from afar. With back to back treys from Smith and a Chops AND1, The Corp built up some momentum. Down 10 they called a brief time out to pump each other up, and it seemed to be working. Riordan took the court and hit his 3rd trey and Smith and Keel followed and suddenly it was a 1 point game with less than 10 minutes to play. Unfortunately, their inertia came to a halt as opposing forces took over.

Within a stormy 3 minutes ODB rocked The Corp like a hurricane (cue the music). Butler jacked up a pair of 3ís & Billy got down and dirrrrty under the hoop. Bam! With less than 5 minutes to play ODB went ahead by 13Ö.this time for good. After their explosive run, The Corp was only able to put up 4 points in the remaining minutes, as championship #2 escaped them.

Props to Kip & Cheese for once again putting together a deadly combination of players, who have apparently out-grown big man, the Rolls Royce. The mantle's gettin crowded, and I look forward to seeing what they bring to the table next season!
