Boneyard Takes B1 5v5 West Title
Non-Genzyme 57 Boneyard 62
Coming into this game, I was told by the Gallaghers what a good match-up it would be. Genzyme had been the best team in the league all season long, but have been hard-hit by injuries and attendance issues of late. Boneyard, meanwhile, had finally ended GTL\'s 3 season long stranglehold on the B1 5v5 title by beating them in the league semis. That\'s right, GTL absolutely owned this league during the 2011 calendar. But this is a new year and there will be a new champ!
Boneyard\'s defense was absolutely smothering early on, not allowing Finnegan or O\'Keefe to get a clean look. The game was a battle from the get-go, missed Js were gobbled up by the defense and there were no fast break points to speak of. Right in Boneyard\'s wheelhouse.
Boneyard didn\'t hit a 3 in the first half until there was less than a minute left. Joe White banged one home to give his team a 7 point lead and give them some breathing room. Their poor performance from 3 was offset by Non-G only taking 8 in the half. This is a shot happy team, but being pressured as soon as they crossed half court really made it tough on them.
TWeb and Etten put in some hard work on the O Glass in the second half and got their team extra possessions. It\'s a good thing too because every second that ticked off the clock was less time for Non_G to get going from deep.
It\'s a good thing that Brett Dickson was at the game for Boneyard. He was absolutely Clutch for the team from the free throw line down the stretch in this game. Even though it was lowscoring, Non-Genzyme was still able to make things interesting by banging home some 3s. That\'s what they\'re best at. Anyway, RayRay would be proud of the effort he put in from the charity stripe, CLUTCH people, I can\'t say that enough.
Non-Genzyme ran out of time and couldn\'t come all the way back. Boneyard will play the winner of the East on 4/19 at 8:00 PM at the Morse School (40 Granite St - Cambridge MA) for the Unification Title! Should be a great game, since I assume the Guerrerros will be the team coming out of the East. But then again, we all know about assumptions, espeically at playoff time at CAC Basketball.
