Spring 2016: B2 4v4 League Champs: Radio Shaq

Radio Shaq gets it done in overtime
    Radio Shaq 60 TDU 57

    Pre-Game:

Coming into game I guess Radio Shaq (RS) were the favorites being the higher seed.  They only had 4 guys in comparison to their opponent TDU who had 6.  In a championship game one would think the team with more players is the favorite but the game still had to be played.

    First-Half:

Early on RS pretty much controlled the first half of action.  They never really got out to a dominant lead but were up 12-10 with about 12 minutes left in the half.  Not sure what exactly happen aside from Labonte and Wingen knocking down a bunch of threes but RS was now down 24-14 and was forced to take a timeout with about 8 minutes left in the half.  TDU did a good job of maintaining their lead and were up 37-29 at the half.

    Player of the Half:

Eric Wingen 18 pts, 3-4 from three, 6 drebs and 1 ast

    Second Half:

RS did a good job of fighting their way back into the game.  With about 12 minutes left they were only down 45-40.  The continued stellar play of Anthony Melo and Karlens Joas saw RS take back the lead and were up 50-45 with about 7 minutes left in the half.  It looked like RS was going to win the game as they had a decent lead for almost the rest of the half.  Their poor free throw shooting prevented them from sealing the win and also just not taking care of the ball.  TDU was down 54-52 with about 40 seconds left.  Brennan Adams was able to come up with a clutch steal and bucket to tie the game at 54.  RS had time to get the win in regulation but their attempt was unsuccessful so we were headed to overtime.

    Overtime:

Usually in overtime, the team that scores first wins.  Things looked good for TDU as they scored first off a Wingen 3.  Karlens and Melo both scored the next baskets to give RS at 58-57 lead.  Although RS keep leaving the possibility of a lead change or tie open with only making 1 of 2 free throws, TDU was never able to score again so RS wins the championship game in overtime 60-57.

    Players of the Game:

Anthony Melo although he didn’t register an assist on the day his overall consistency in other areas really helped his team secure the win on the day.

    Grades:

Brennan Adams B I mean he made a big play to send the game into overtime but he didn’t make a three or any free throws.  I liked that he stuffed the stat sheet though.

Eric Wingen B I mean aside from the first half and the 1 made three in overtime he didn’t really bring much to his team.  Obviously he had some consistency throughout the game he gets a higher grade.

Labonte B+ he actually had a pretty solid game with 19 pts, 3-9 from three, 2-3 from the free throw line, 2 stls, 4 orebs, 6 drebs and 3 asts.  Would’ve liked to see him be more aggressive in overtime but overall he played a good game.

Lucas Restivo C I don’t recall him playing much and he didn’t do anything to cost his team the game.

Matt Consiglio C- In looking at his season averages he didn’t have a great game.  Also I felt like he spent a lot of time arguing with the ref when it wasn’t even necessary.

Patrick Kahl B He made a three, which at the time was a big shot and also was able to get some other good stats.  I also feel like he didn’t do a bad job on the defensive end.

Anthony Melo A- His free throw shooting wasn’t great and didn’t get any assists but overall was the best player in this game.

Karlens Joas A- had to give him the minus grade for the free throw shooting but outside of that really did everything on the floor.

Pierre Joas C- I probably could’ve gone lower with the grade because of his poor shooting but his team did win and he made 1 free throw that helped secure it.

Randy Kearns B overall just a solid game and made key contributions throughout the game.

    Takeaways:

TDU I’m assuming they will be back in this league as they were really close to winning it all.  Next time make sure you get Labonte’s name added to the roster for his stats.

RS got it done so I assume they will be back to defend their title or maybe not.  Anyway congrats to them on the great win.
