Scalopini Takes the South
Team R.O.C. 57 Scalopini 62
There's nothing like a 1 v 2 match-up in the Divisional Finals to prove that the long hard season was worth it. Even better, Scalopini's only loss of the season came from Team R.O.C. by a mere TWaters Bomb (3 points people, keep up!)
This is my first time seeing the South this season but I do remember Scalopini from their B1 East days. I was surprised that Team R.O.C. led by BWad as the GM, was so young. Man, I remember back when I ahd like 2% body fat and could run all day. Those were the days man.
Sorry, I'm getting old, I'm married now, but you don't all want to hear about that, you want your game recap.
Team R.O.C. jumped out to the early lead behind the shooting of Richard and Carlos. The 2 were bombing away from downtown and getting to the line any time they wanted. Scalopini was having trouble staying in front of anyone on R.O.C. and getting whistled for foul after foul. In theory, everyone wants 2 refs in the Finals, but sometimes it can bite you in the @$$.
Trailing by double digits, TWaters took over. Kid was wHet from downtown, scoring 18 first half points to keep his team in it. Somehow, some way they were only down 3 at the break. The experience of having been under the pressure before, the veteran guile, all that was coming out the longer this game wore on.
After the break, Scalopini took over. Jamie McDonald flashed the shooting stroke, SPerry started using his muscle to pick the pockets of the young whippersnappers, and Segalini and Bres once agian flashed the Monster of the MidRange jumpers that have made them so successful.
It looked like Scal would run away with this one (just like R.O.C. seemed poised to do earlier), but this wouldn't be a Finals game between the top two teams if we didn't have yet another comeback.
With Jose straight Doin' Work in the post and Carlos sniping, this thing got tight down the stretch. I'm talking - 2 points with 2 minutes to go - tight. The crowd, of course, was loving it, and firmly behind Team R.O.C. The balcony was shaking with every big bucket and defensive stop. Just when it looked like R.O.C. was poised to tie this thing up, Sperry came through with his biggest steal of the day and found Old McDonald running the floor for the game clinching layup.
The B2 South Champs (Scalopini!) will be facing the B2 East Champs (Warrior Country) in the first game of the B2 Unification Final Four! The game will be Tuesday 7/27 @ 7:10 PM @ CAC. The Winner will make it to the Unification Game against the Winner of the West/North bracket the following week with a chance to play in front of the camera and get their banner hung at Wall Ball Arena. Good Luck Boys!

Serenity Now Comfy Beating The Nasty
The headline is a little creepy but it's supposed to draw you in - so, I tried. Not my best effort since this is being written about three weeks too late, but que sara sara. The one thing I always, always, always do - is finish what I start. May be five years later - but I get there. Basically - AK's Fun Bunch LOVE the CAC for the small ball feel and can actually run people out of the building with Big Shot Biggins doing most of the harrassing.
Pre-Game - this is my first foray into the B2 South domain in 2010 so I was unsure what to expect. Other then Elvis from the Bad News Bears - I gotta think The Lighthouse B is going for 20 minimum. Elvis has no one to stop the bald shining light of Bermont. Or so I think...
Terrible - Pockets starts the game and immediatly subs out at the 2:40 mark. It does not beat the 5v5 record of Kmiec (Genzyme) checking out 1:48 into a 22-minute half but this HAS TO BE a 4v4 record. Dude is the one most-in-shape on Serenity Now (not saying much) and he's checking out? Bizzare.
But fair enough - as expected, Serenity is up 13-5 as Kneeland is no dummy hitting dimes (three) all over the place in the first eight minutes of play. Freddie B has an easy six points in the paint and my moneyline of 20 points looks promising. Who is the newbie for SN? Bill Kenney? Sounds like a made man name you can't Google - i.e. a D2 All-Star - as Kenney gets the "and-one" to give The Now the eight point lead, 27-19.
Holding any team to under 20 points in Wall Ball is a feat so the defense intensity that Kneeland has brewed up is paying dividends on both ends of the floor but The Lighthouse only finishes with eight firts-half points as while Kneeland's GM-ing skills in putting quality products out there can not be questioned - his sub-skills need some refinement. COSTING ME MONEY HERE AK!
Flynn opens up the second half finally connecting from downtown as the Octagon we call the CAC seems to be messing with his shot. Dude was 2-of-10 in the first half from three-bee land and is shooting his team down the river.
BK...Kenney...wait a second...PK Broiler? NIGHTMARES! The Serenity Now group had Paul "Cant Spell His last nam" Krezonowski (not bad) lite me up for 51 in a B2 Championship game (look above for the banner) and now the BK Broiler is on fire.
BK and Fitzy are just getting it done off the bench as Elvis is down 18 and still heckling the crapola out of anyone who is aligned with Bermont. Fantastic. This is what CAC Ball is supposed to be about. Having fun, drinking beers, losing to Freddie. Scratch option #3.
Bermont finishes with 16 to tease me out of my money and this one was finished with the 7-2 opening run of the second stanza and Flynn and Elvis just couldnt match with the downtown daggers.
