Spring 2010: Lunch League Champs: Arch Stanton

Disappearing Vladi Doesnt Cost his team as Arch Moves to Finals Anway Asks him to stay home next week
Arch Stanton 84 Of Mice & Manischewitz 72

Longest Write-up Title Ever? I think so, but I'm not shortening it! It will make up for the short write-up I hope.  After another devestating playoff loss (at least it wasn't in the finals, right!?) I got to head to the scoreboard and keep stats for this one. Hooray!

Without Vladi I thought we had some serious upset potential in this game.  We basically whittled the game down to Chise vs Majic, the two MVPs the Lunch League has ever know (oh yea, spoiler alert, Chise will win the MVP Award when it comes out tomorrow, can I scoop my own awards?!).

So as expected, both marquee players came out with guns blazing.  But it was the contributions from Arch Stanton's other guys that gave them the early edge.  Garrett "The Animal" Tingle was aggressive on both ends, and as you can see in the box score, nearly pulled off a TDub in the playoff game. Talk about a time to step it up.  Speaking of which, I haven't seen The Greek play this well since last St. Patty's day and he immediately went out drinking, then disappeared for the next two months. Is that going to happen again?!

For M&M, they had guys step up as well.  Mike Trostel played the best game of his short CAC career and was all over the place. Between nabbing steals, finishing on the break and crashing the boards, the kid was key to M&M's early success.

But still, they found themselves trailing 49-40 after Arch ripped off an 11-0 run early in the second half.  Chise apparently just used the first half to get warmed up and was in the process of beginning to drop 31 second half points.  The winner of Saugus' annual (and oh so prestigious) GOAT, Chise found his stroke over the weekend and unlike myself, avoided adding to his risk of contracting skin cancer. Did anyone else notice how red I was? Could barely lift my arms.

Enough of the excuses!  Chise was heating up, the Greek was still pouring it on, and M&M had no answer.  Majic took a season low 18 3s (jokes and jokes and jokes) and it wasn't enough . Ryno was taking advantage of his mismatch downlow but they couldn't keep pace with Arch's prestigious offense.  Man, Vladi better not ruin their chemistry next week, this team really has a chance to win it all, and we know how he disappears in the second round (even if this in the Finals) of the playoffs.

So who ya go, Arch Stanton, winners of 8 straight, or Still Smokin' the deadliest offense in the league.  Pick Your Side! Good luck to both teams on Wednesday at Noon, don't miss a minute!

    Still Smokin Races into Finals

Reeves has his team in the finals for the second straight LL season, and now without the pressure of being the favorites, let's see if they can get the job done.  To get there, they had a high flying, 3 point bombing, dime dropping run'n'gun affair against the CarBomb Racers.

Led by SMul in the first half and his redhot, Tibbs isn't playing good D, 4 for 4 effort from downtown, Smokin' led 49-41 at the break, and Scott had 20 of those points. There was just no denying him and I think he missed one shot on me total on the day.  Talk about playing matador defense, I define the phrase!

    OLE!

Anyway, the Racers were keeping it close because DynoNATE was straight ballin'. The dude just loves it when he sees Cruz lined up on the other side of him and he finds his J at a minute's notice.  Maybe Cruz just plays as little D as I do.  RoY candidate Cam Demby had a strong outing as well, but Still Smokin' was just crushing it on the boards.

The second half thiings slowed down for a few minutes.  Racers found a way to tie this game up at 59 with 11 minutes to go.  Yea, 94-59=35 points that's how many we gave up in the last 10+ (game was called early).  Talk about Ole! Alex Allen was dominante on both ends, with a strong near 20/20 game and got to the line at will.

With the strong showing Still Smokin' moves on to the Finals next week against Arch Stanton for the 2nd Lunch League Championship. Speaking of which, we need some sort of Lunch League 'Trophy' to add into the pictures.  Head to the boards to give your ideas and watch for the Lunch League Awards tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Note to future Lunch League captains: When Biehler says that he's going to be an attandance issue, believe him. When he says for two straight weeks that eh should have no problem being to the game (and on time) DONT BELIEVE HIM!! Gah! We could have used his athleticism, his rebounding, his hustle, basically he's the anti-Tibbs, especially in the playoffs.  As usual, I'll blame someone else for the loss, and instead of B-Flabulous this week, I'm blaming AB!!
