Neon Guts 17 76 Give'Em The Hook 63
Pre-Game:
Coming into this game, I actually saw Neon Guts 17 (NG17) as the favorites. Not that Give’Em The Hook (GTH) is a bad team but they were struggling to even get 4 guys. They ended up getting Fraher, RoShawn, Cheever and a less than 100% Aidan. Dustin was on standby in case Aidan couldn’t finish the game. NG17 on the other side had all their guys ready to play
First Half:
This was a true championship battle. Both teams wanted to win and with about 10 minutes left in the half NG17 was only up 21-20. 3 minutes later KD said “I’m going off for 50.” Didn’t exactly happen but it did somewhat spark a run for NG17 and they were up 30-26 with about 5 minutes left in the half. GTH refused to give up though and both teams battled as the halftime score reflected with NG17 up 35-32.
Halftime stats:
Dan Ly 1 stl, 1 oreb
Eloi Cardoso 7 pts, 1-4 from three, 2-2 from the free throw line, 1 oreb
Frank Malsbenden 3 pts, 1-5 from three, 1 blk, 5 drebs
Kervens Desravines 19 pts, 5 orebs, 5 drebs and 1 ast
Nate Mendes 6 pts, 0-1 from three, 2-2 from the free throw line, 1 stl, 1 oreb, 1 dreb, 2 asts
Rich Carey 1 stl, 1 dreb
Aidan O’Kennedy 9 pts, 3-8 from three, 7 drebs
Andrew Cheever 9 pts, 1-1 from the free throw line, 2 stls, 2 drebs, 1 ast
Mike Fraher 12 pts, 2-2 from the free throw line, 1 oreb and 1 ast
RoShawn Green 2 pts, 0-6 from three, 3 drebs, 1 ast
Second Half:
With about 13 minutes left in the half the game remained close with NG17 still up 47-42. Over the next 7 minutes NG17 did what they had become accustomed to doing over the last couple weeks; that was going on a run. That run was 22-9 giving NG17 a 69-53 lead. Although GTH continued to fight and didn’t give up, NG17 had too much firepower and went on to win this one 76-63.
Finals MVP:
Kervens didn’t win the regular season MVP and I know that kinda bothered him but he gets the most important MVP of the season. Congrats much deserved.
Grades:
Dan Ly C didn’t play great obviously but made a positive impact on a championship win for his team.
Eloi Cardoso B- didn’t shoot it good from three but did other things, which helped his team, win it all.
Frank Malsbenden B close to a double double and shot ok.
Kervens Desravines A didn’t shoot it great from three but everything else he did on the court outweighed that.
Nate Mendes A had a really really solid game. Congrats buddy on your first chip.
Rich Carey A I know he didn’t have great stats but this is Rich’s 4th championship and the league has only had 6 seasons.
Aidan O’Kennedy A don’t even know how he played let alone managed to get a double double. Hopefully he recovers knee injury and is able to come back and play in this league.
Andrew Cheever A probably his best game of the season at the most important time, it just didn’t result in a win. I know he’ll be back next season
Mike Fraher A solid solid game for Fraher. I know he will be back next season too.
RoShawn Green C managed to get double figures in scoring, which saves his grade, but didn’t shoot it well. He’s back next season and overall he had a decent season.
Takeaways:
Tough loss for GTH, this marks back-to-back seasons that Fraher has a team in the finals and lost. He’s obviously good at building teams so I’ll know he’ll be back next season to try and win this league for what would be his third championship in this league.
NG17 wins it all. After playing in his 549th game Nate Mendes finally captures his first CAC championship. Congrats to Nate and the other NG17 team members. This team defied the odds all season and won it all. Once this team started to click they looked unbeatable and proved it by winning a championship.
