Fall 2018: Over-30 Legends Draft Champs: Sicko Mode

It took double overtime but the new champs are
Love Me Some Me 57 SICKO MODE 59

    Pre-Game:

As I knew prior to today, Sicko Mode (SM) was short handed missing a key player and starter in Eric Bonvie. On the opposite side Love Me Some Me (LMSM) had all their guys. There was a little drama prior to tip-off as there were a couple of guys (cough cough Dwight and Chao) that didn’t have CAC jerseys. The rule just for reference is “Players not wearing CAC jerseys are not eligible to play in a playoff game.” I want to point out that Jeff Moccia also didn’t have on a CAC jersey but I’m pretty sure he gets a pass because those jerseys are too small for him. Luckily for SM Brett was somewhat of a nice guy and only took two free throws and the ball for the techs. I probably would’ve either demanded 4 or said Dwight have fun watching the game hahahaha. Brett only went 1-2 from the line so before any time ran off the close LMSM was up 1-0.

    First Half:

With about 14 minutes left in the half both teams were still in the figuring out what to do stage and had no offensive rhythm the game was tied at 7. With about 9.21 left in the half, SM took a timeout down 14-13. LMSM would go 0-9 from three in the half while SM shot 3-7 resulting in a 23-16 halftime lead for SM.

    Halftime stats:

Brett Royer 4 pts, 2-4 from the free throw line, 1 stl, 1 blk, 1 dreb and 2 asts

Dan Ly 0-3 from three, 2 drebs and 1 ast

Dan Weiner 0-2 from three, 1 stl, 1 oreb and 1 dreb

James Bohnaker 2 pts, 0-1 from three, 1 stl, 1 blk 2 orebs and 2 drebs

Jeff Moccia 10 pts, 0-3 from three, 2-2 from the free throw line, 1 blk, 4 orebs, 6 drebs

    Kevin Smith no stats

    Chao Quan no stats

Chris Maciejczak 14 pts, 2-3 from three, 1 stl and 1 dreb

Dwight Bowen 2 pts, 3 drebs and 2 asts

Nate Mendes 5 pts, 1-4 from three 3 drebs and 1 ast

Scott Mulholland 2 pts, 1 oreb, 3 drebs and 1 ast

    Player of the Half:

    Chris Maciejczak

    Second Half:

It really started to look like SM was staring to pull away. One positive note was Dan Weiner hit the first three of the game for LMSM even though they still trailed 36-26 with about 9 minutes left in the half. A mini three-point barrage occurred with Kevin Smith knocking down a couple and Weiner hitting another somewhere in between. The momentum was clearly shifting and to make matter worse Scott Mulholland fouled out with 4:33 left in the half and SM was only up 40-37. Fast forward a little and LMSM only down 47-45 got a great offensive rebound and score from Moccia to tie the game at 47 with about 13 seconds left. SM took a timeout but still managed not to get a shot off so we headed to overtime.

    Overtime:

Royer gets on the scoreboard first with a 2 point score and then is matched by Majic. Dan Ly goes 2-2 to from the free throw line but again Majic matches going 2-2 as well. Both teams had opportunities to win this game with the last coming from a Dwight 2 point jumper right before the buzzer that was off the mark so we were headed to overtime again.

    Double Overtime:

Nate kicked things off with a huge three pointer. Royer was able to score a 2-pointer at the basket. Majic made his free throws going 2-2 on the opposite side James went 2-4 and then Dwight sealed the game going 3-4 from the free throw line down the stretch. LMSM did have another opportunity to tie or win but was unsuccessful and SM wins 59-57.

    Player of the Game:

Chris Maciejczak a phenomenal game and great season overall. Carried his team in so many instances.

    Grades:

Brett Royer B- he did a good job on defense but his three point and free throw shooting can’t be ignored. I hope he comes back next season.

Dan Ly C- did manage to score but his three point shooting can’t be ignored. His free throw shooting isn’t awful but he did have a chance to seal the game at one point and couldn’t. Glad he’s in the league and hope he comes back next season.

Dan Weiner B+ was great when he was out there and he should’ve played more. The only reason he doesn’t get an A is because his team lost. He’s improving each season and I hope he plays again next session.

James Bohnaker C his offensive numbers were probably impacted because he had to guard Majic all game. He did a nice job rebounding but overall just not the type of game his team needed from him to pull off the upset. I want him back in this league next session.

Jeff Moccia B his three point shooting just can’t be ignored outside of that and aside from the fact that his team lost he actually played really well. I hope he comes back to this league again.

Kevin Smith B+ another guy that got limited minutes but was really good when he played and shot efficient from three. Looking forward to him returning to this league.

Chao Quan A didn’t score but managed to get a rebound. The biggest thing is he didn’t get exposed on defense when playing major minutes.

Chris Maciejczak A he has played better but he shot really well and did everything to help his team secure a championship.

Dwight Bowen A was great played very smart and didn’t make many mistakes.

Nate Mendes B his three ball was off in this one but he still made a huge one in double overtime. He also did a nice job of stuffing the stat sheet.

Scott Mullholland C+ I actually forgot he played (just kidding) but seriously he shouldn’t have fouled out but it wasn’t his fault. He had a pretty good game for only playing basically half of it.

    Takeaways:

LMSM had a good season just fell slightly short. All the guys on this team were great and hope to see them next season.

Congrats to SM they really deserved this win especially with a key guy fouling out and missing a key player. Nate gets his second title in this league while a bunch of guys get their first. I hope everyone on this team returns to play next session.

That’s it guys, thanks for another great season. Enjoy the holidays and see everyone soon.
