Fall 2009: Women’s 4v4 League Champs: Technical Knockouts

    Womens 4v4 League TKOD
    Technical Knockouts 53 86 the DBags 43

Two late season losses didn't deter the Technical Knockouts from their goal of winning the Women's 4v4 Fall Championship.  They started 7-0 on the season, having beaten every team twice, so why couldn't they go around and do it one more time?  They made quick work of their first round opponent, the Fluffy White Bunnies, but knew they'd be in for a battle against 86 the DBags.  After the Thanksgiving bye week, everyone was a little sluggish to start this game.

Maybe it was nerves, but I'm betting it was the copious leftovers and emptying of the wine bottles that had this game off to a slow start.  Halfway through the first we were tied at 9 and the Hitman barely had any footage for his video! I mean come on people, the least you could have done was given in to his interview requests! Haven't you watched our videos before?

That's how it's supposed to be done Ladies!  Anywho, the pace of the game picked up as the league MVP, Nicole LaRocque, lit up the skies for 16 first half points. You see what I did there, gave you a little preview into the Awards that are coming later today. You like that don't you?  86 the DBags were up 4 at the break despite only having 3 roster players. Don't worry, they got an approved fill-in, as Moonboots made her triumphant return to Wall Ball Arena, to the tune of 2 points and 5 boards. Hey, it's not easy playing here when you haven't for what, a year?!

The second half was a completely different story for the TKO offense.  After minimal ball movement, no fast break points everyone decided to step their game up. Only league Rookie of the Year Tory Lyons (see what I did again there?!) could get anything going in the first frame. Her four blocks kept the game close on one end while her team high 12 points at the break kept it close at the other!

But this is a team game, everyone needs to play well, and the camera was rolling!  It started on D, diving for loose balls, doubling the RoC and making life miserable for the DBags.  That always translates to good things on offense.  Long boards turned into fast break points for Tory, Ellen was dishing the rock and the Rainmaker kept bombing away.  With the best ball movement in the league, AND the best offensive rebounding, as we've come to expect all season, it was only a matter of time before the TKOs put it all together.  All of a sudden, shots started to fall.  The RaDazzler, aka the Bulldog, aka Tiffany Radaz, came alive after a scoreless first half.  With the game tied at 41 and 9 minutes to go, she was just getting started.  She must have finally gotten her legs back after lacrosse practice. I think it's lacrosse, she coaches that right?? Anyway, Tiff scored 8 of the team's final 12 points, 17 overall in the second half, and the defense allowed just one bucket the rest of the way to claim the Women's 4v4 Championship.  For her second half performance, Tiff gets the nod as Finals MVP!  Congrats to all the players and teams on another great season.

    Champ Pic!

And in case you Ladies haven't heard, the Winter 2010 season is going to allow team entries!  You can still sign up as a free agent ($140 per player) but team entries ($850 to enter a team) are going to be approved! Send me an email at CACBasketball@gmail.com and let's expand the league!
